Could someone explain why The Flood are always at the library guarding the "key" to activate Halo ?

  • 05.28.2006 1:59 PM PDT

Halo CE......(sigh) the good ol' days......

“Go, stranger, and to Lacedaemon tell that here, obeying her behests, we fell.”

its just conincidence, its not like they have a "purpose" to protect it, although i dont get why the forerunner would build a library right in the middle of a flood quarantine zone......

Quite simple really.

Flood need sentient life for "Food". The Index is needed to activate Halo, thereby killing all sentient life (Flood Food). The Flood want more Food, and so don't want Halo activated, so they try to stop you getting the index to activate it.

Well yeah that's what I would like to know, it probably is just a coincidence, and there is a chance the Gravemind just told them to go there and guard it.

One can assume that the Library also feeds the Flood when they are dormant or in hibernation. Perhaps there are more flood entties like Gravemind that can guide and instruct the Flood.

Besides, they may be smarter than you think and they know whats going on...

Ever think the quarantine zone is meant to keep the flood OUT?

343 Guilty Spark said that the Flood's parasitic nature denies them intelligence, so they can't know that the Index will kill all sentient life.

Could the rest of the Flood take orders if they don't have intelligence?

Perhaps the Flood went there by their own volition, and Gravemind just wanted the Master Chief and the Arbiter to make sure that they don't die.

The only way they could get there by themselves would be on a ship that was on Halo. But wait a second, you said they have no intelligence, so how did they pilot the ship?

Since the Flood are just infected froms of Humans and Elites, they could have piloted the ships by instinctive behavior since they've done it before.

you forget that intelegence dont means instinct the gravemind could control somehow their intincts so they act like they had intelegence and another think if they are dumbs why they use weapons....gravemind and intinct

Okay, I think I know what you meant now. The Flood use weapons because of instincts. Their hosts used weapons before they were infected, and now they know how to use the weapons that their hosts used. That's why you never see infected Elites using Human weapons and vice versa. Also, your theory of Gravemind controlling the Flood's instincts doesn't make sense because there's probably no way for him to control their instincts.

They kept crashing into the city. They probably just estimated how to get to the city, and their instincts helped them to make those estimations. If they did have intelligence, then at least a few of them probably would have made exact calculations and then they wouldn't have crashed.

you dont "estimate" when you are plottting a course through an alternate dimension my point is that either they must have some intelligence or someone or something else made the calculations for them

I'm not sure that they went through an alternate dimension to get to High Charity. If they did, then there may have been some sorts of methods of calculations that were remembered by the Flood because of their instincts, and maybe the Flood did make mistakes because they may not have even been trying to get to High Charity in the first place.

I think its because the forerunner didnt want just anyone activating the ring. Think about the Halo The Flood, the monitor says MC's suit is only a class 2 and not the proper suit for the task at hand. They probably only wanted it so someone who is strong (themselves or a reclaimer) to activate the ring.
