Subject: Community Joe Interview *Anniversary Special* - Yoozel

Yoozel

Today we have a special interview as it's our year anniversary! We had a tough choice of who to interview however we went for Yoozel; one of the oldest Ninjas (account wize) and coolest. So settle down and turn the air-con on as it's gonna get hot in here!

Q: Obviously 'Yoozel' is just your username, so who are you really and where are you from?A: Upon all considerations asking who I am or what I am is more a ruse rather than a physical manifestation of what I do. For I simply am I, maybe a free floating moniker used by a true masked vigilante or a series of dedicated individuals working for your complete and total distruction. Or I'm merely Yoozel; I hail from the mountain state of West Virginia.

Q: Uh.. okay aha, you seem like a very sekret guy! I always thought Yoozel was a drink.. what does it really mean?A: It was originally a term coined by an artist I knew in High School who used to joke about a fictious band of rabid tamborine players. It's kind of one of those awkward inside joke things.

Q: Inside joke eh, plenty of them going around at the moment. Not everyone knows what your avatar is about, care to inform the younglings?A: Ah yes back in the wee days of Bungie.net a chapter once existed called Mr. Smiley's Xbox Lounge hosted by Mr Smiley and his good buddy Gruntsbane. Together these guys created Halo Babies, a spin off of a comic originally done by Bungie and turned into a full fledged series. I really enjoyed the series and had contacted Gruntsbane the artist for the series if he'd create my avatar, which he graciously did so and I'm a tad fuzzy on the details but I'm not sure mine was ever released in the actual comic. Although the website is down now you can still view the entire series on HBO!

Q: I sure wish I had an account back then, it sounds awesome because I was talking to mrsmiley about Halo Babies and his Group Themes ect last week. Your very lucky :P! You joined bungie.net in 2003, what were the forums like back then?A: A little known fact is that I actually had an account before then! But back in my day we only had three forums and that was it! The early predecessors to today's website where nowhere near how they exist today. I'd say all together the forums would move about as fast as the Community forum does on a good day, but then again most people were not very interested in posting to the main forums because the 7th Column network was so widely active it offered many more personal forums to connect with people all over the world who loved Bungie games and Halo. If people think Achronos popping in now and again is a sign of the end of times - back then it was as if the second coming of Jesus was at hand!

Q: Haha, epic! You were one of the first few Forum Ninjas right? Whats the best bit about Moderating?A: I'd say the best part is getting to interact with so many different people from all over the community. We tend to walk the path between seeing the good and the bad but when you see the community pull together to accomplish great things it's rewarding or when you get a friendly pm. But I mean, the company car, paid vacations, bi-monthly meetings at the studio plus all the babes a Ninja could want... I mean, that doesn't hurt either.

Q: HAH! You wish ;)! Do you miss your Forum Rules threads in each forum like this one?
A: Hah, oh gosh no! What an eyesore those really were but we did the best we could with what we had! I usually posted the rules because I keep very strange hours and was able to be on when traffic was typically at a standstill on the site. It's not like Achronos and I are in a powerstruggle or anything...

Q: I thought they looked pretty stylish? Anyway what was the first Bungie game you played?A: I was apart of the Halo cyclone that sucked me right in. From the very first commerical to every midnight release after that!

Q: So, Halo Combat Evolved then eh! What a game - Have you tried the anniversary edition?A: Personally I have not, although the game looked quite nice in it's updated version I just had an itching suspicion that I already knew how it was going to end.

Q: Yeah, you guessed right, but the graphics are amazing! So, what Community Projects have you been involved in?A: The last project I got involved with was setting the framework for the Bungie.net FAQ which was taken underhand by a lot of great people in the community and put together very well. This was something I've felt Bungie.net always needed for the simple sake of the complexity of how Bungie.net tends to be, if I walked in the door now I'd be completely overwhelmed with how things work around here. Thus after many years of talking about it I decided it was time to act upon it and assembled a group of willing volunteers who did an amazing job at sourcing the information, writing and working out the format for the project. Sadly I had to step away from the project and Duardo picked up the mantle of editor to see it pushed through in it's finished glory!

Q: Yeah, that was an awesome project, one I helped with too! Lets move away from Bungie.net for a little bit; aside from Bungie.net and work what else to you get up to in your busy life?A: For the better part, I'm often married to my job. But when I'm not there I can typically be found dubiously ingrained into marathoning movies or found out in the wilderness playing airsoft with my pals. Despite all said and done, I lead a rather quiet life as the high stress nature of my job, any time to prop your feet up and just relax is always welcomed.

Q: BB Guns eh? Thats an awesome sport, I love it. Your job sounds cool and sekret, I bet you like an FBI or CIA agent or something ahah! In your opinion, what's the best thing about life?A: The best part of life is the relationships you are going to build with your friends and family, because without them what do you have? They're going to see you through to the end so you best learn to get along with'em know and keep them close!

Q: Hmm.. something is very fishy here! I agree, I love my friends and family too much. I take it you will be attending PAX 2012? If you are then don't let people take advantage of you this year! *coughsonicjohncough*A: Uh...yeah, ahem... SonicJohn knows he will get his comeuppance! I said lightly but at least I was awake for my six am flight home after that night! As for PAX I'm still a bit up in the air about going, I haven't made any solid reservations as of just yet but I typically do not start planning until about mid-summer. Trust me, if I'm there you'll know it! \

Q: Oh damn! Grr, i'd so love to go! Are you too trembling with excitment for the next new hawtness like Me and Foman?A: I really cannot wait to see what Bungie is going to crank out for this time around. With each new addition to the site we see a lot of great changes and Bungie's continued devotion to improve. I mean, they can't do any worse than when Facebook updates right?

Q: AHAHAH thats so true!! Hopefully the chapters will be more like how they used to be. Okay so last time I interviewed a Ninja members were upset that I didn't ask about Fomans Mom. On behalf of those members; what do you think of her? Is she a classy lady?A: Paste A simple sonnet, no an epilogue; I'm unsure what should be penned to immortalize the verbose serendipity and aura that she entails. By all means, that woman's got class for miles on end it doesn't help that she's really got at... oh hey squirrel!

Q: Dang she sounds good! Random question.. would you take the blue pill or the red pill?A: I'm one for the infinite abyss, I'd definitely take the red pill. By all means we all secretly want to know where the rabbit hole goes right?

Q: Oh yes, I would too. It'd be painful and scary but well worth it! Thank you so much for getting up 1 hour sooner, it's been a delight to talk with you. So lastly, any shout outs you want to make?A: Oh by all means, the pleasure was all mine! Thanks for taking the time to chat with me! Just tell Foman's mom I'll be swinging by after work... stay thirsty my friends - Sláinte!

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”
- Dawes, A little bit of everything

Congrats on the anniversary, and cool interview.

Want to know more about me? Check out my Community Joes interview.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

Has it really been 1 year? Wow, congratulations Community Joes - wonderful read.

Wow, that just about covered everything. It was cool to see an image embedded in a member's post. I would say more but it would b even more of an eyesore so...

I'll congratulate you guys on the 1-year anniversary and raise a glass toward the future. I believe I am involved in that ;)
