I realized that for the nertron bomb type explosion to work as I posted earlier... It would have to have some sort of driven force aka... in a UNSC class ship they integrate Shaw-fujikawa type FTL drives (faster than light) so my guess is that the impending doom of the Halo activation sequence would take more than 30 seconds... depending on where in the universe you are in comparison to a Halo ring... so maybe since the universal plight would have to integrate a form of transportation without dissipating, maybe it would take several years to have the universe completely *clean* of all the sentient life...
What do you think?

So is it possible that if the Halos were activated many many years ago their destruction is still going on somewhere in the Universe?

I Think your un educated, or rather you didn't read the post. What he said makes perfect sense. But, the forerunner are much advanced than the humans, so It could be a bit faster than a few years.
