Subject: A forgoten ring

"There are fighters and there are targets. There is nothing else."

I'd just like to point out that you don't need a halo covering the galactic center. The stars are so close together that the radiation would destroy anything. Besides the gravitational pull of thousands of stars. Planets might not even be able to form in that area of space.

On another topic I'd just like to point out that when GS said that Halo had a range of 25,000 lightyears he was talking about a single halo. He gos on to say later that no sentient life within 3 galactic radii of the center will survive. This means the Halos have to cover an area with a diameter of 300,000 lightyears. There must be a way to increase their range. It's possible that the pulses from individual halos could reinforce eachother and travel farther.

In conclusion the loss of 1 halo is insignificant. the entire galaxy should still be covered, we don't know how but the quotes from guilty spark tell us that the 7 halos much have a longer range or there is an amplifier out there somewhere. Possibly the ark acts as a signal amplifier just as the individual generators on the halos act as amplifiers for the pulses.

If you remember at the end of Halo 2 when Guilty Spark was showing them the diagram of all the Halos they were all different sizes but does that effect the range each one of them cover.

That's a good idea. I had always thought that the rings acted in unison rather than individually. Maybe the rings do fire a signal to the ark which then combines the various signals and sends out an amplified pulse. It's a neat idea... I guess well just have to wait and see if Bungie are ever going to tell us how they see the Halos working.

A small point though, 343GS didn't mention 3 galactic radii, he just said 3 radii. It's a small point but it could be important. If he's talking about the radii of each halos effective range that means that the effective radius of the rings combined is only 150,000ly. Still plenty to wipe out the galaxy but not as big as 3 galactic radii..
