He's a computer, the rings kill all of the Flood's food. 343 is not a food source. Nor is he alive.

Halo only kills SENTIENT life... and 343 is a machine.. it doesnt HAVE a life.. plus he cant be infected by flood so it would be pointless for the forerunners to program the halos to destroy machines as well

I think what he was asking was if the explosion should have killed him. He seems to be very resiliant to weapons of any kind as it's written in the halo books, as well as it is seen in the first Halo game.

Even a UNSC ship's engines going critical didn't kill him. (If you watch through the credits at the end of Halo 1, you see him floating off from the wreckage of Halo 1)

they weren't. The first halo was blown up by the Pillar of Autumn. The second halo was stopped before going off.

The rings send out a pulse, not an explosion.

He threw gernades into the Pillar of Autum engine shields blowing them up. After which the enging on the pillar of Autum went critical. At the end of the game you race against the clock to get into a longsword fighter to bail off of Halo.

MC hops into the longsword and burns his engines to the max getting away from the explosion.

Miranda keys pulled the "sacred icon" out of the activation panel on Delta Halo causing it to only send a pulse beacon to the other Halos. Delta Halo did not go off though.

If you're talking about the ring blowing up then watch the end of the credits.

So if gravemind is a flood (sentient) was he just holding onto penitent tangent for some reason?

He was probably keeping penitant tangent from leading a "reclaimer" to activate Halo.

2401 specifically states that the halos were activated once befor, thats why the forunners are "dead".

yes... the first halo in Halo one was activated over 100,000 years ago (timeline of halo). Since then they haven't been activated. The Pillar of Autumn blew it up at the end of Halo 1.
