Getting everything down in multiplayer is one of the hardest things to do, especially if u dont live in a community with lots of advanced players, so ive compiled some great tips and tricks to help everyone from the beginner to the advanced halo gamer, mastering these will aid you very much in halo and may be even allow you to hang with the pros.
Basic essentials
-when encountering an opponent try to use different straffing patters to avoid being shot, also a well timed crouch or jump can help during evasion
-when encountering someone who is using the straffing pattern, try to mimmic their movements of the longer stafes and shoot at the spot they are going to change direction to, but not after they have already changed direction
-The double melee can become one of the most deadly close ranged attacks, rapidly hit B, L, then B again to do the double melee
-Backpack reloading is a great way to save yourself in a tight situation which requires 2 guns, when you need to reload with the first gun, press X, X, then Y to get out your other gun, after you hear that the reload cycle is done with the first gun, you can do the backpack reload with the second gun and just keep switching without having to stop and reload
-If by some chance you happen to get a plasma grenade stuck to your upper torso, ur pretty screwed, right? wrong, if you can get to a wall in time, a well timed melee while running at the wall can actually "snuff" out the plasma grenade
-When making a long fall, try to crouch as soon as you hit the ground, it will save you from getting damaged from most jumps, if you aren't good at timing these, its always safer to crouch too late, than too early
-A well timed crouch at the peak of your jump can add height to your jump and give you access to several different areas a normal jump cant get you
-Grenade jumping to higher areas when combined with the crouch jump can be very usefull and may get you out of a very bad situation, to get the most height, try to jump at the last possible second before the grenade explodes.
-Always Reload when ever you get the chance, especially inbetween firefights
-The speed reload can be very useful and give you a slight edge in a firefight, by pressing X and as soon as u see the clip inserted into the gun press Y and the gun will be reloaded. It will shave a second or two off reloading time.
-Use the flashlight to help distinguish invisible players along with the covenant. Some Multiplayer maps do not allow flashlights for some odd reason, but remember to turn it off
-When using the rocket always aim for the feet of the target or a spot preferably away from you, but closer to your opponent. Do not shoot at the body, it's very easy to dodge if your opponent aims for the body
-Try not to use the AR or the Needler very much, in multiplayer it becomes very easy to avoid the weapons, or out gun them
-Remeber pistols are much more accurate with single pulls of the trigger. Not with the trigger held
-When needed use vehicles to block teleporters. Good CTF strategy. However remember that this limits your movement also
-An obvious tip is never stand still in the open, even when you think you are safe
-Always know your surroundings. See if an upgrade or weapon is missing. If so make sure you warn your team mates
-Never go into battle without shields. Let your shield regenerate before moving into unknown territory
-When sniping, never ever camp, its easy to find and pick off a camper, instead stalk and move with your opponents and when you get good enough, start going for the head more often (Note: for more sniping tips consult Hikuaru 119's sniping guide)
Now that you know many of the basic essentials, lets move on to some harder tricks.
Advanced Essentials
-Use the rocket launcher or other powerups as bait, people will flood to them like flies
-If you get good enough with the pistol, try to go for the triple shots more often, 2 shots anywhere on the body and a shot to the head will take out people very fast
-ALWAYS at least try to carry a pistol w/ u at almost all times, it can outgun most everything
-Quitely switching weapons can aid you greatly if you are following an opponent, press Y and then immediately after press B, and it wont make any noise, unless you melee a wall,
this also works when picking up a new weapon
-It will greatly aid you if you can remember some respawn spots, people who remember these can often get a headshot or put a rocket where the player might be
-If you notice someone taking advantage of respawn positions, melee as soon as you are respawned (it will actually bring your head down, avoiding most headshots), and then move to cover as soon as possible
-Learn where to stand and throw grenades to blow certain powerups and weapons to you, many of the pros will use this to their advantage, you need to learn it to keep up with them
-Getting effecient with certain obsceur jumps will aid you in getting to many places much faster then running
-To become invisible quicker when first picking up and using the active camo, just fire a shot or two from any weapon but the sniper, pistol, and rocket launcher. This also works after getting shot or firing a shot when using the active camo
-When using a timer for a powerup, up to four people can crouch where the powerup is going to respawn, and all four will get it at the same time
-As the level of competition increases, your individual skills may not prove enough, find a good partner and coordinate effective attacks against your opponent, calculate what you think your opponent will do and what you will do to counteract that
-Standing in certain areas of certain levels will cause your teammate to be respawned in random areas, this may be your only way out of a bad situation
-Not only is staying together a good tactic, but dividing your team up can be just as good, although if you divide, you must watch out to see if the opposing team is doing the same, or preparing to take out some of the spread out individuals in a group
-When an opponent is rounding a corner, memorize where his head will most likely end up, point your sniper there and it should give you an easy headshot, move quickly to the next area or else you opponent may quickly figure out a way to counteract you
-Certain spots in most levels give you full field of view, using these spots to your advantage can be crucial, never leave your back out in the open
-If you cant seem to find your opponent chances are they are likely behind you, or following a similar pattern as you, carry on as if you dont know they are there, and then choose the best way to attack them (Ex. bouncing a grenade off a wall, turn around and kill the damaged opponent), also if you suspect that if you have seen your opponent and he thinks that you have not seen him, let him follow you, and then do what was said in the example above
Of course there are many other strategies that i havn't listed, if you find one that you think could help many advanced or beginner halo players, just post it and help out the halo community
