Subject: FACT: We Need a New Way To Advertise Groups

***If for any reason this thread appears to be advertising a group in anyway please lock immediately***

So the last 2 days I have been concurring a experiment with the Bungie.net Community. I have been seeing what are the best ways advertise your group. In the past, I have tried the Classifieds and it only seems to yield only a handful of members. So I decided to experiment with "PM spamming"

Now, I know I probably pissed off a lot of people doing this experiment but I think it was worth figuring this out. Now, while PM spamming is effective I have found that it really annoys a lot of people. (I know I hate getting spammed group invites) This just proves to me the fact that we need to create a new way to help group advertisement.

Now, with Deej's Group Ride Along it has helped give advertisement to bigger groups. But We still need a new way for new groups to advertise in a effective and non-annoying way. Maybe a revamp of the Classifieds, or maybe something completely different.

I honestly am not sure exactly what would be the best way to advertise groups in a efficient and neat way. So that is why I have created this, to see if anyone has good ideas on how we can improve group advertisement.

So, what do you guys think?

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

0x0 x0x 0x0 000 000 x0x 000
x0x 0x0 0x0 0xx 000 0x0 000
x0x x0x x00 0xx 0x0 x0x 0x0

I have seen you future

I think there should be a group registry, where people could place their groups and tell a little about them, and anybody who wanted to join a group could find out what groups are available and what they do. It's like the classifieds, but organized by group function, not who posted last.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

I think we should wait until Bungie.net is upgraded. I doubt the Webteam hasn't addressed the issue; I'm sure they're working on something to solve the problem. You won't see Bungie do anything about it now.

Until then, you'll just have to stick to The Classifieds.

Probably?

>_>

On topic, I think that you should be able to tag your groups like you can tag your Reach media, and people looking for a group for, say, Minecraft could search for it and find all the groups on Bnet that are somewhat relevant to Minecraft.

Obviously only group admins would be able to tag the group, but anyone would be able to upvote individual tags.

Why are you reading my signature? Who actually opens these things and reads them!

And as always, SEND ME A PM. Please. Or really bad things will happen to you.

I think Hylebos's idea could work. But until private groups offer something other than exclusiveness I don't see this helping at all.

GGGGGGggggggggggggGGGG

The way I see it, if you create a way of advertising a group, people will ignore it. It's when you engage them personally that they will check it out.

I think the tattoos on or near an attractive pair of bewbs would be incredibly effective in raising awareness, if not encouraging action.

Imagine all of the potential revenue for selling those ads and how I could clean up by selling "this space for rent" T-Shirts.

See all that space to the left, to the right, and below the forum? That could be used for advertising groups.

  • 03.30.2012 9:58 AM PDT

Кланяються мені!

I honestly don't see anything wrong with the current way of advertising a group in the classifieds forum. If I want to join a group I will go there and look around. The tagging idea above is a good idea and I don't see why it wouldn't be implemented for those who are looking for topic specific groups. What should also be done if anything is to raise awareness about the existence of the classifieds forum to newer members.

I don't think the Classifieds Forum should be similar to other forums. The layout nerds to be changed, and there shouldn't be threads.

My proposal would be to have 25 (or less) squares per page. In each square, the author would be able to describe his group in 60 characters or less. The name of the group would be above the description in bigger letters. Clicking the square would bring users to that group's homepage.

It would look similar to this. Kind of like the Halo 3 File Shares I guess.

I don't confuse DeeJ's ride alongs and other group interactions/spotlights with "group advertisements".

DeeJ isn't advertising a group when he writes a piece on a particular event or group. He is "advertising the community" by showing how diverse and "made by the members" our groups can be (and are).

Hello, I'm Mr AwesomePizza. I like pizza and I'm a man. Reasoning for the name. I like to listen to the classics of music, write poetry, play video games, and much much more. I'm always down for a nice chat, so please hit me up for some conversation.

Hoobla had an idea of putting individual group adds on the side where Bungie has the "Gone Dark" add on. I think that is a great way to get adds out.

That's not what he's saying. Heard the saying any publicity is good publicity? The same principle applies here. Because Deej did a ride along with the Bronies, people have now heard about the group, those interested have looked up the group, and those wanting to join have now done so. The point of the ride alongs is to have some community interaction with Bungie while they are dark, the side effect is some serious publicity for whatever group rides.

I like this, right now the Classifieds is a sewer pit.

There is the groups page Located here that changes daily. Now this is not the greatest thing because there are some groups displayed there that are "dead".

We do need a better system for group advertising. The Classifieds could do with a complete revamp.

For Carnage, Apply Within.

I have returned from the Untamed Lands. MOAP is dead.

What if user titles were replaced with the group name of choice that a user belonged to? The group name in the title bar would still appear as text though, not a link.

i think it needs to be like a news letter, what groups are new or were created in what year and how many people are in them.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

While changes to the Classifieds Forum might make it prettier, it won't help you if you need to take out "group advertisements." Nothing will help you if your group sucks.

Any marketing major will tell you that word-of-mouth is the most effective form of advertisement, and that does not change as far as private groups advertising goes. Really cool groups end up gaining members really quickly, while mediocre groups don't. Period.

A lot of people don't seem to realize: there is no magic way to suddenly force hundreds of people to join a new private group just because you created it. We all understand that the creator/founder of a new private group always thinks it's really cool. That doesn't mean it is cool, and it doesn't mean that anybody will want to be in it.

If the group is unique, offers something that other private groups don't, and has good membership, it will grow regardless of any available advertising methods. If it doesn't, no change to the Classifieds Forum or private message system will help.
