If you don't believe me, here's the story according to the Halo: CE game manual (page 5):

"On Reach, a secret military project to create cyborg super-soldiers takes on newfound importance. The soldiers of the SPARTAN-II project rack up an impressive record against the Covenant in test deployments, but there are too few of them to turn the tide of the war.

Existing SPARTAN-II soldiers are recalled to Reach for further augmentation. The plan: board a Covenant vessel with the improved SPARTAN-IIs and learn the location of the Covenant home world. Two days before the mission begins, Covenant forces strike Reach and annihilate the colony. The Covenant are now on Earth's doorstep. One ship, the Pillar of Autumn, escapes with THE LAST SPARTAN-II and makes a blind jump into deep space, hoping to lead the Covenant away from Earth."

Emphasis on the phrase, "last SPARTAN-II." This is, as far as I know, all Bungie has said about any of the other Spartans (except for the one in DOA4.) The other Spartans in the novels don't count, because the novels were written by fans, not Bungie staffers. The novels don't adhere to the games completely, and the games certainly don't have to adhere to the novels.

Of course, if Bungie changed its story itself, feel free to say so.

perhaps in the books, but...

BUNGIE DID NOT WRITE THEM. THE BOOKS ARE NOT THE AUTHORITY ON WHAT BUNGIE DECIDES TO DO IN THEIR GAMES.

Bungie said, in their own game manual, that MC is the last one.

At the time of Halo CE they believed that there were no other Spartans but If you read the books you would know that they found that was not the case.

The books are officially licensed by bungie, why wouldn't they be truth?

licensing just means that they gave permission, not that the books are automatically the authority on the Halo storyline.

The books are canon. Canon = official fiction based on the Halo Bible created by Bungie. Halo Bible = story/plot/subplot reference that Bungie uses for the Halo games/universe. While Bungie themselves did not write these books, they a) would be copyright infringement if not endorsed by Bungie and b) are works condoned by Bungie themselves. This has been posted before and cleared up.

Please dont say the books have no connection with the game. That makes you sound unintelligent.

ok so bungie basically licensed the books but did not bother to check them out seeing as how they tell the story of THEIR GAME!. you need to re-think yourself kid, if licensing just meant that they gave permission the halo books could have been about dinosaurs or tickle-me-elmo dolls, bungie and the writers of the book work closely together. And you are obviously outnumbered by many people who disagree because they have actually read the books, NOT JUST THE GAME MANUAL :D hahahahaha

It's bungies universe, they do what ever the hell they want. They put a spartan who did'nt even get a mention in the books into DOA4! If bungie wanted to, thy could say that reach was the first spartan II planet. The other 50 were kept in secret and now there are 50 billion spartans all teabaging the covie homeworld as we speak!

Don't mess with creativity man, they do WHAT they want, WHEN they want WITHOUT QUESTION! it's their Fu!$ing universe! So feel free to express ideas and stuff.

If YOU read the books you would know that Fred is indeed alive along with Kelly, Will and Linda. Plus others that survived augmentations but with adverse side affects (such as Parkinsons disease) that now work as intelligence officers but do not fight.

A More Complete Compendium of a Bungie History
-Thanatos 117

During this time it was believed all the Spartans were dead because the majority of Spartans were sent to Reach's surface to repel the ground invasion. While the Master Chief's team of James and Linda secured a NAV database containing the location of Earth. James was blasted off the station into space assumed KIA and Linda was shot and wounded with a life threatening condition in cryogenic stasis on the Pillar of Autumn, As the Pillar of Autumn left Reach it watched it get most of its land mass glassed, assuming that the Covenant didn't stop glassing the planet (although they did) everyone assumed the rest of the Spartans were KIA. But we later found out the Covenant never fully glassed Reach and the Master Chief rescues several Spartans from the planet.

For Halo 3 it is unknown how many Spartans are still alive but at the end of First Strike we know that the following are allive:

SPARTAN-043: William
SPARTAN-058: Linda
SPARTAN-104: Fredric
SPARTAN-117: John

As for the missing in action:

SPARTAN-087: Kelly

There are several others that are assumed KIA but we just see them get overwhelmed in dire situations. And there are also three other Spartans that were never recalled to Reach during its invasion because they were engaged in combat to distant to be recalled. Their whereabouts are unknown as well.

The following are Spartans wounded but their current status is unknown as well:

SPARTAN-084: Fhajad
SPARTAN-(unknown): Cassandra

And there are the Spartan I soldiers and the daughter, Janissary James, of two of the Spartan I soldiers. And SPARTAN-458: Nicole of the Spartan III program. Well, let's just say Bungie left it open for a lot of Spartans and a lot of different Spartans to make come backs.

He watches every Hodgetwin video they put up...on ALL their channels. He calls them the Hodge Triplets, and considers himself the 3rd triplet. He's started talking and acting like them now. Every other line out of his mouth "Thaaas some BULLLLLL**** maaayne" or "Gotta make dem gainzzzz". He calls his biceps "gains". When he eats post-workout, he talks to his biceps, "Don't worry gains, I'm feeding you. Daddys gonna feed you, gainz *kisses biceps*".

Guys, couldn't we have done a little bit less flaming and laughing? He needed to be corrected, but not like that >_>

I guess that means that anything Shishka says is BS too, eh? I mean, he's just a fan? Eric Nylund wrote the books under contract and supervision of Bungie, making him a Contracted Bungie employee. Bungie and Microsoft wouldn't have placed their logo's on it if it was some printed fan fiction. Besides which, Bungie wouldn't let some fan, take their copyrighted ideas and publish it for profit...

The books are cannon untill Bungie says otherwise, which they haven't, unless you have a quote I haven't seen.

That quote says he is "the last SPARATAN-II", not the "only remaining SPARTAN-II", which could mean "last combat capable (taking over a Covenant ship and finding their home planet) SPARTAN-II)" your 'proof' doesn't convince me of your point, it is just an opinion based on a single fact that in itself isn't to clear in its own meaning.
