You should of made up your own instrument. You could have named it the PolarLighting -a-phone. People would buy it and they would all be like "Awh, He's so cool for inventing the PolarLighting-a-phone."

If you don't believe me, here's the story according to the Halo: CE game manual (page 5):
"On Reach, a secret military project to create cyborg super-soldiers takes on newfound importance. The soldiers of the SPARTAN-II project rack up an impressive record against the Covenant in test deployments, but there are too few of them to turn the tide of the war.
Existing SPARTAN-II soldiers are recalled to Reach for further augmentation. The plan: board a Covenant vessel with the improved SPARTAN-IIs and learn the location of the Covenant home world. Two days before the mission begins, Covenant forces strike Reach and annihilate the colony. The Covenant are now on Earth's doorstep. One ship, the Pillar of Autumn, escapes with THE LAST SPARTAN-II and makes a blind jump into deep space, hoping to lead the Covenant away from Earth."
Emphasis on the phrase, "last SPARTAN-II." This is, as far as I know, all Bungie has said about any of the other Spartans (except for the one in DOA4.) The other Spartans in the novels don't count, because the novels were written by fans, not Bungie staffers. The novels don't adhere to the games completely, and the games certainly don't have to adhere to the novels.
Of course, if Bungie changed its story itself, feel free to say so.
At the time that the Pillar of Autumn jumped it was assumed that all of the remaining SPARTAN IIs on Reach died. Who would have guessed that they would survive when the planet was glassed?
