Member of team Master Theory.

17th Mythic Conqueror of Halo 3.
5th Mythic Conqueror of ODST.
If you would like to know more about Mythic difficulty please go to this thread. Thank you.

Please do not send me "recruitment messages" as I'm not interested in joining any groups currently.

Not particularly. If it's less than 1.0 it's generally a sign that the player is bad, but other than that it completely depends on which playlists a player frequents as well as plenty of other variables.

  • 03.30.2012 9:38 PM PDT

Depends entirely on what playlists the subject plays.

Unfortunately if you're just playing matchmaking, you can only see overall kills and deaths at a glance.

Mediocre Backpacker
56% W\L
2.86 k\d
3.18 DMR
7.29 God Magnum
7.79 Sniper
5.34 Needle Rifle

I swear this has been asked 20 times before. Below 2 for "social" playlists is bad and above 1 for "competitive" playlists is good, in my opinion.

Although I know that there are obviously ways of stat-padding MOST of the timen when I go into matchmaking and see someone with a high KD they are usually fairly good. The funny thing is though one of the best players I play with has an overall KD of like 1.3 or thereabouts. I have a K/D over 2.0 but IMO I am not that great. I feel I outsmart my opponents most of the time. I also play a decent amount of BTB, Team Slayer, and Super Slayer. For the most part those playlists are filled with not so great players and that makes it easy to maintain a high KD. Some people would say that having a high KD in BTB is not that hard but I have over a 4.0 in a hundred games or so without really using any vehicles which I think is pretty damn good no matter what people say about it being an easy playlist.

Essentially it comes down to this in my opinion, if you have a highish KD the chances of you being a difficult opponent are much better than if you have a lowish KD

K/D is a terrible indicator of skill.

Name's John. I'm a 21-year-old firefighter/EMT from lolhio who doubles as a die-hard Halo fan. I've been enjoying the franchise since 2001. My favorite iteration of Halo would have to be Halo 2 simply because I never got to experience the joy of a full-on Halo: CE LAN.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Oh yeah, and boot Zome.

Typically it's a good start-off point, but it's nowhere near 100% surefire.

I play games for gameplay, not silly gimmicks

H3 MM warrior

Reach S7, 8 and 9 arena warrior.

H4 MM legend

Its a decent indicator for a first glance.

But really its a combination of multiple things. And of all those things K/d is the lowest factor

  • 03.30.2012 10:41 PM PDT

I'll use K/D like your friends do. I play SWAT mostly. When I get matched up, I'll quickly glance but, it's more of a case of who to watch out for. Or if I get in a situation where I run into multiple people, I'll shoot at the "better" player first then kill the "worse" players

  • 03.30.2012 10:47 PM PDT

based solely on what I see in the matchmaking lobby:

negative k/d = bad

barely positive = still bad

barely positive + automuted = possible mlg player (or just annoyingly bad)

2.0 or better + no arena rating = stat padder

2.0 or better with gold or worse in arena = bad stat padder

decent k/d + onyx = at least one thumb

multiple onyxes/single digit = possible threat

etc.

Well, it took me a while, but I finally typed a long, well-written answer that I can just copy & paste to all the threads like this:

No.

Anyone who claims the AR takes skill ought to shoot himself in the head. Preferably with the AR because they'll most likely miss with any other weapon.

lol oynx means squat in this game. maybe the first few seasons but after that pretty much anyone can get oynx. even players with negative kd in mlg. hint hint.

This is a Reach account that I created the day they announced his name in a bnet weekly update. Any stats regarding ODST or Halo 3 are irrelevant. Also, Halo CE master race. Halo 1 > other halo games > other games.

Account Status: Silver :(

Yes, KDR is one factor of skill, but not the only one. Boosting or any form of cheating would nullify any argument for skill.

Also, you have to factor in the teammates. I play alone so some of my best games might not be represented by high K/D stats, but rather that I pulled a decent K/R and was the only one on my team to go positive. Teams that play game in and game out might not be as individually skilled as some lone wolves, but their K/Ds will be high because of teamwork.

That's why there is individual skill and team skill. It's not always easy to determine which is represented by a players K/D. I've won many 1v1s against players with higher K/Ds simply because they got to their position by the players around them.

First in social ranked firefight campaign competitive and ODST goose splatters.
My other account is UrbanTwisticle
20,000+ total matchmade goose splatters

Check out my YouTube Channel

K/D is the stat that matters the most.

If you have a K/D that is under 1 you are not very good at halo. No exceptions.

If you're bad at halo then the pretty womens laugh at you and tell you things like: "get in there and make it yourself, captain thumbless. You better make me one too while your at it noobulis."

k/d doesn't reflect on skill it just shows how much of a tryhard you are.

Still using a pump-action shotgun over 500 years in the future I see.

omg not realistic stop game production plz

Easiest way to define it (this isn't always true though): Not every player with a >1 K/D is good, but every good player has a >1 K/D.

Exception being people who do a lot of Objective; you can go negative and still be the guy constantly bringing flags back, planting bombs, etc.

  • 03.31.2012 3:18 AM PDT

Hey guys, I boosted 1200 kills when the game first came out. My KD is completely skewed and I am a terrible player.

OT: I dont check that often in MLG. I have mostly stopped in default because I know I can beat the other team easily, no matter what their kd
