Cortana upgraded his HUD and his armor when he was in Cryo-sleep.

Now watch me get banned because that was from a demonstration video that was talked about in the GI magazine that got leaked.

I could see this being true, because I've herd Cortana also changed her hologram avatar during the gap between Halo 3 & 4 so she could've changed some other things too.

You have no idea how revolting I can be.

DeeJ's Challenge

Cortana clearly got bored and decided to do a little designing. No really, just go with the fact that 343i said there is a reason. We'll find out soon enough.

Idgaf, his armor changed without explanation from Halo 2 to 3 as well.

You really don't pay attention to the cutscenes in Halo 2, did you?

MJOLNIR Mark VI arrived from Sognam(?) that morning to ODP El Cairo for the Chief.

He said between 2 and 3....

It is still the same suit of armor that you have at the end of 2, and the beginning of 3. nothing changes.

The only thing that changes with his armor between 2 and 3 is that his armor is damaged in 3.

Untrue. John's gauntlets are completely different in halo 3 and there are other minor modifications.

As I always bring up with these topics, everyone complains about John's armour changing yet nobody gave two -blam!-s about Thel's armour magically changing colour, growing mandible guards and a flashlight on it.

Change happens, artistic vision evolves.

I think it updates while in cryo-sleep. I heard it somewhere on the Halo wiki.
That's Mark VII armour. Chief has Mark VI armour in cyro sleep. His armour doesn't update by itself.

That's a little different from what you're getting at. Think about the level of detail Bungie was realistically able to put into the Arbiter's armor in halo 2 considering the hardware restraints with the original Xbox. When they made Halo 3 the programers and artists could significantly increase the detail and complexity of whatever they wanted to render with the 360's huge graphical boost over it's predecessor. Hence, they could elaborate and add more detail to Arby's armor, but the two armors form Halo-2 and 3 aren't that different.

Different art direction =/= things looking different to the point they are no longer the same design; Chief's armor and the Dawn look absolutely nothing like their previous versions in Halo 3. I get the feeling 343 is going out of it's way to make Halo 4 it's own, but in my opinion they made so many changes the series doesn't really feel like Halo anymore.

The whole re-canoning of the Forerunner-Human back story/connection contradicts everything in the original trilogy including the Halo 3 Terminals and the ever growing number of S-2s and S-3s that shouldn't exist. Halo:Glasslands was a waste of dangling plot threads from Ghosts of Onyx; no exploration or finding anything significant in the Shield World and what the hell happened to S-3 Gamma Company? 300 drug tweaked super soldiers that could very likely go crazy because of their augmentations and most of the people who likely knew that info died on Onyx. What the hell? That book took a while for me to consistently read all the way through. When it came out I made the mistake of skimming through the book out of annoyance at the slow place and everyone blaming, plotting and back stabbing each other and rage posted about it messing up some plot points. I got some serious flame for that.

I've been trying to give the new canon from 343 a chance and I'm still holding out hope that Halo 4 will be a good game, but I have to think of the series in it's current state as a mild reboot or alternate universe to enjoy it. For me 343's Halo is too different from Bungie's Halo to really think of it as one consistent story/series.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

I cannot comprehend how you think the Forerunner Saga books retcon anything, if anything, they are the ones with the least retcons when it comes to Halo media.

The initial Halo trilogy implies that Humans are either descended or directly related to Forerunners. Spark and Bias flat out say in Halo 3 and Contact Harvest that Humans are living Forerunner. The Terminals on the Ark in Halo 3 say that the Forerunners, specifically the Librarian had no knowledge of Humanity existence until right before the Halo's fired. Cryptum contradicts all the previous info; Humans and Forerunners were rivals, went to war with each other, Humanity lost and was nearly wiped out. The Librarian herself devolved the remaining humans into cave men. If that isn't inconsistent then I don't know what is.

No. Forerunners found us. Although we are technically related by maker, ie the Precursors.

Spark and Bias flat out say in Halo 3 and Contact Harvest that Humans are living Forerunner.

Bias and Spark say Reclaimers. Spark's "You are Forerunner" line cannot be trusted due to his rampancy. There never was a biological connection like you imply.

The Terminals on the Ark in Halo 3 say that the Forerunners, specifically the Librarian had no knowledge of Humanity existence until right before the Halo's fired.

Can't recall that one, mind showing me?

Just because we didn't know about it doesn't mean it's contradicting.

Too add on to your Spark argument, also consider the fact that the Forerunners considered their name to be a title, one designated to those who are actively upholding the Mantle. They will then be succeeded by another, worthier race and be "Forerunners" to them.

So in that respect, Spark is right. Humans are Forerunners, in that we hold the legacy of the Mantle.

He is also wrong about the Forerunners finding humans. Librarian is telling Didact that she wishes she could see the humans as she sees them; she talks as if they were recently discovered yes, but what she's really saying is that she has discovered within us a specialness.

And having just re-read all of the L/D conversations, she never actually says that they just found us.

The armor the Chief wears is still the Mark VI. It just looks different because they wanted to express their new art style. But they also said that there would be some kind of explanation for it.

The same reason the battle rifle was given a new look, despite the fact Halo 4 takes place a couple of months after Halo 3.

Different art style.

I'm honestly curious as to how it changed at all, seeing as how he was incarcerated the entire time.

It doesn't really make since.

Check out my Youtube Channel!

the trailer is not cannon. in the new game informer it speaks of what the first mission is like, the MC does not just float and shoot a thingy and look out the back of the ship. he will find new armor probably on the ship somewhere after he wakes from cryo sleep.

<( "<) COOL (>" )>

I think this possibly makes the best sense so far... however i have heard that removing armor parts in cryostasis can have a freezer-burn effect on the exposed areas... so i dont really know.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

Based on what we see in GI this month, it's looking like he has the new armor on the Dawn

actually its the opposite wearing clothes in cryo is what gives you "freezer burn" you are supposed to be naked when they freeze you.
