Weapon damage would definitely add to the realism of the game, but would it be practical? I mean, it'd be cool to see the weapon you were holding chip and stuff until the point it's no longer usable and you have to find a new one, like the vehicles. Of course, if your weapons could break, that means you could occasionally not have weapons; this would allow Bungie to implement hand-to-hand combat, which could be pretty sweet. But it might get kinda annoying if your guns kept braking. So should weapons take damage?

I don't know this belongs in the "Halo 3 Weapons Ideas Thread"; i think that thread is just for weapon variants. But i could be wrong...

No. Weapons are designed to be extremely durable. Anything powerful enough to actually damage a weapon is likely going to be fatal to the weapon's operator.

Its hard to say, I say yes, because it would give a chance for hand to hand combat, but I think it would very unlikely, and kinda annoying sometimes !

I think that if u stick a weapon wit a sticky grenade, and the person drops it, the grenade should be dropped wit it, and explode. Weapons should be destroyued by explosions, and maybe a sword slash. regular bullet fire cannot do it.

ya, that would be kinda funny, your deffending your base and people are attacking, and then......your weapon jams or something and the bomb guy just walks in and everyone gets mad at u cause you didn't kill him...

I think that they should only break if shot at... and even then not BREAK but just.. not perform as well...Overall i think it is not a good idea but Bungie may make it a great addition!

Yeah, i agree with that. And only weapons you are holding could take damage. Weapons just laying on the ground wouldn't take damage though, because then everyone would go around shooting weapons so other people couldn't use them and that wouldn't be any fun.

No that would be annoying although they are putting something like that in Gears of War.

No. Halo is supposed to be extremely simple, and easy to learn. This would only confuse it without adding in anything very worthwhile.

"Hey! I heard you fellas taste.... just like chicken!!"

Agree Spinky, but It would be nice. Like in MP you can shoot the weapons off the hands of you enemy by using sniper rifle or other high dmg, non explosive weapons, the weapon shot out of your hands could be damaged in certain places, hitting the scope would mean you couldnt zoom anymore, shooting and dammaging weapons shouldnt mean it would be totally useless just hamped. Ever tried to aim at the jackals beam rifles in Halo 2? They drop it momentally then starts running around with their PP's lol would be nice if they picked it up thereafter, tries to fire but realise that the trigger is broken :p

I am...whimsical today.

Sounds like a cool idea, but would have to have a good set of rules to keep it fun.

This just came to mind its a little off subject but still similar subject. What if you could shoot a misile out of the sky or shoot a grenade and they'll explode. that be cool.
But with the shooting and disabling guns i think it should be a option anything more and it would get annoying.

You can already shoot a grenade in the air and it will explode, it happens by accident more then not though.

I don't remember this too well, but back during Halo 2 development some Bungie guys interviewed some Military guys for insight into weapons and such. One of the guys commented that it was awesome that "No guns ever jammed in the video games" -- and how awesome it would be if that never happened in real life, etc etc.

But I guess the Halo story takes place eons from now, so I'm pretty sure they'd have something as simple as gun-jamming figured out. Who knows, it might add to realism!

Stickies bounce off of guns.
