the books are not canon... just the games

True but Bungie AND 343 have helped the authors set up the story for the books before so they screwed up there own canon
but the books have like 6 authors...if you read them you can tell. then theres the comics, and the cartoons...

Name's John. I'm a 21-year-old firefighter/EMT from lolhio who doubles as a die-hard Halo fan. I've been enjoying the franchise since 2001. My favorite iteration of Halo would have to be Halo 2 simply because I never got to experience the joy of a full-on Halo: CE LAN.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Oh yeah, and boot Zome.

Don't forget about the fact that Halsey had no idea that Spartans III existed.
Posted by: Seven
The book never said anything about the Pillar of Autumn landing on Reach. Also the Spartan III's birth dates don't match up with the age of the classes, SIII's were never given MJOLNIR armor and all the spartans from Alpha company were supposed to have been killed and on Tom and Lucy were supposed to have survived Beta Company.

But nope, lets retcon everything gogogogogo.

Yes, this too, how could I forget.

Dammit Bungie.

lol This

>Halsey knows about Spartan III's in Reach.
>In Ghosts of Onyx, which happened later, she's like "Da hell are spartan III's?"

This. I'm reading Glasslands now and this is pretty much exactly what's going through her head. Bungie fails hard.

You're correct, game does overrule book canon, but it's still wrong for Bungie to establish things as canon, and then take a dump on it.

Basically Bungie got lazy and said -blam!- it.

what did they "take a dumb on"

Lots of previous established canon
-Halsey wasn't supposed to know the Spartan IIIs existed till GoO
-Carter was too old to be in Alpha Company
-The Pillar of Autumn wasn't supposed to be docked on the surface
-the timeline in which Reach was destroyed
-what about the Orbital MAC guns

There's more but you get the point.

  • 03.31.2012 10:14 PM PDT

but all them things was in the books... not the games.

i love the books dont get me wrong(most of them),but like i siad only the games a canon

and in reach they said that the ships slipedspace under the MAC guns

I'm not sure what you're trying to say but bungie destroyed previous canon, and a lot of the things just don't add up. One question is Reach you're favorite campaign.

The 343 forums suck. They're full of retarded kids and mods who got butthurt in the B.net forums for being told that they're bad.

The book was just an overall better story. There was absolutely no need to crap all over it to make a bad game.

  • 03.31.2012 10:21 PM PDT

no, reach is low on the list

Exactly I don't see why they couldn't just stick to the story, and have you play as a marine, trooper, or Spartan II.

Because Reach was meant to be a special and unique snowflake just like the kids who think Reach's story was the best out of any Halo, be it book or game.

Hey now, Fall of Reach was pretty good. Wasn't spectacular, but far better than the game's story.

My point though is that Bungie had no good reason to crap all over well-established canon, even if Reach's story was better. Why not just follow the already established story and go off that, instead of basically completely starting over?

Fall of Reach was one of my favorite books out of them all. I know it's good. I never spoke to the contrary.

And I agree that there was no need to force all the unnecessary elements for Reach like the Spartan IIIs. My snowflake comment was supposed to describe Bungie's mentality whilst devising Reach's narrative.

Reach being better than Halo Wars. That story still fit within the rest of the universe without having to disregard the books or any other pre-existing canon (FoR was canon until Reach came along and derped it up).

It was a different game, but the story was still far better composed than Reach's, which is sad since there was a very simple one in Halo Wars.

Oh. I misinterpreted your post.

But to that other kid, Bungie could have done a different story BUT STILL COULD HAVE KEPT IT WITHIN THE SAME SETTING! They didn't have to make Spartan IIIs and a terrible story and try to mash the PoA in there and have NO EPIC BATTLES like we were promised.

The Battle of Reach had a well-established timeline, but still many details were left out. They could have picked one or even multiple stories that were not explained instead of trying to change everything that was.

  • 03.31.2012 10:37 PM PDT

You won't remember why you were doing anything once you're done.

Forgettable and a waste of time. stick to the book. It actually has a plot.

Tech like what? The tech aspect of Halo has always been mixed up. It's nothing new.

The Flood was a perfectly acceptable discovery because the Spirit of Fire never made it back. Seriously kid, I have to question whether you actually have some idea of what you're talking about or if you're simply talking out of your ass. I'm guessing the latter.
