Interesting story...

"Mr We deal in lead"
"I do not aim with my hand; he who aims with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.
I aim with my eye.
I do not shoot with my hand; he who shoots with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.
I shoot with my mind.
I do not kill with my gun; he who kills with his gun has forgotten the face of his father.
I kill with my heart."

This line is in both the fifth cortana letter and a poem by some guy whose name i forgot. My point of this is that I looked up the actual poem, and it talks about a lion coming to lyca's parents and telling them that in his palace deep, lyca lies asleep. So, i researched a lions palace, and came up with the Palace of the Lions at Alhambra. In this palace there is a "hall of the two sisters" does that mean that lyca may have a sister?

for more info. visit lyca.com

Perhaps your right. Maybe a twin sister? Maybe cortana? the books say AIs go crazy after they start thinking too much maybee cortanas mind split in two making her twins one evil and one good and the other one is named lyca sort of like multiple personalities. or I'm just making wild guesses based on obscure facts one of the two.

the ilovebee.com for Halo 3?

indeed sir.

  • 05.29.2006 8:51 AM PDT

Heres another thought. I don't know if this applies to Halo 3 (being as the original text was written in 1999 in the Cortana letter) but maybe the speaker for this line is Gravemind. In my palace deep, lyca (cortana?) lies asleep. At the end of the original poem (which is called little girl found) it talkes about how lycas parents need not live in fear of the lion (the speaker, which in this case may represent the flood and/or gravemind) or wolves. As far as wolves, i don't know, maybe covenant?

At any rate, heres the poem:

All the night in woe
Lyca's parents go
Over valleys deep,
While the deserts weep.

Tired and woe-begone,
Hoarse with making moan,
Arm in arm, seven days
They traced the desert ways.

Seven nights they sleep
Among shadows deep,
And dream they see their child
Starved in desert wild.

Pale through pathless ways
The fancied image strays,
Famished, weeping, weak,
With hollow piteous shriek.

Rising from unrest,
The trembling woman pressed
With feet of weary woe;
She could no further go.

In his arms he bore
Her, armed with sorrow sore;
Till before their way
A couching lion lay.

Turning back was vain:
Soon his heavy mane
Bore them to the ground,
Then he stalked around,

Smelling to his prey;
But their fears allay
When he licks their hands,
And silent by them stands.

They look upon his eyes,
Filled with deep surprise;
And wondering behold
A spirit armed in gold.

On his head a crown,
On his shoulders down
Flowed his golden hair.
Gone was all their care.

'Follow me,' he said;
'Weep not for the maid;
In my palace deep,
Lyca lies asleep.'

Then they followed
Where the vision led,
And saw their sleeping child
Among tigers wild.

To this day they dwell
In a lonely dell,
Nor fear the wolvish howl
Nor the lion's growl.

If cortana had a twin or sibbling of sorts it would be Durandel. In Behwolf (I don't know exact spelling) both Durandel and Cortana were the names of two swords made from the same steel. For anyone who knows a little about the Marathon story line they can tell you about Durandel and his little rampancy issue and haw there has always been a lingering suggestion of a similar case involving cortana.

Though this is a good thought who knows it's bungie for all we know they can be totally random and end up making Halo 3 a battle against lamas.

The web site (lyca.com) seems to be directions leading to some place. The first dot says:
"Just before the little river meets the
big one, there's a large grey house.
Except in the worst of weather, there
will be a slender grey cat out front.
Her name is Lyca. Pet her."

All the other dots seems to be directions. But the last one says, "Start digging."

also, if you guys want more info. on lyca.com and quo.org there are i think two or three email addresses currently being explored, and a response from one of those emails was simply primenumbers.com (which is just some dumb website) Prime Numbers is interesting to note, though, because in the braille letters on lyca.com (which are L, Y, C, and A) contain a prime number of dots, and all of the dots added up are 11, which is another prime number...

^ yes, thats somewhat correct, here is my theory on that:

First off, if anyone already proposed this idea, sorry, I didn't see it.

Now that we have that out of the way...
I was thinking, perhaps this line refers to Cortana--or more specifically, her daddy.
Now we all know that Dr. Hasely is Cortana's "mother" but who is her father?

I think that he is Durandal. I know that there are no canonical connections between Marathon and Halo, but think about it. IF there were, he WOULD HAVE been her daddy. After all, the new super AI's (of which Cortana is one) are designed to have "emotions" and therefore imply that they are more than just code, etc.

(on a side note, maybe they designed the AI's to have a limited 7 year lifespan so that when the AI's went rampant like they had planned, they could see the course that would play out, and as a fail safe, have them die after 7 years, but anyway back to the point)

Going with the above statement, since Dr. Hasely let ONI clone her brain to make Cortana, she is, in effect, her mother. And since Cortana is obviously rampant (there are subtle hints in BOTH Halo games, and you can choose a RAMPANCY symbol in Halo 2, and the whole ilovebees thing was about Rampancy) then her other half--her father--WOULD HAVE been Durandal. Hence the saying, I would have been your daddy.

After all, isn't Durandal the AI most famous for helping out his human counterpart (when necessary) and also being rampant?

All in all, I think this theory is at least worth a look...

just re reading first strike. Doesn't this all link to reach? the river thats near the mountain, the guards out front, something buried deep below it? that or i'm just going mad from too much sugar.

IT does seem linked to Halo...its just so strange!

  • 05.29.2006 9:03 AM PDT

yes, the website lyca.com contains eleven different directions (all appearing to be related to each other), one for each dot. The last one says "start digging" presumably at the spot mentioned in the previous dot, and there is also text at the bottom which says: Questions? write lyca at quo . org

I think the "one direction for each dot" thing should be looked into, and also keep looking into the First Strike connection, that could hit paydirt.

No, Marathon and Halo are not in the same universe.

Apparently there is more than one poem about Lyca, all by the same guy.

The Little Girl Lost:

In futurity
I prophetic see
That the earth from sleep
(Grave the sentence deep)

Shall arise and seek
For her maker meek;
And in the desart wild
Become a garden mild.

* * *

In the southern clime,
Where the summer's prime
Never fades away,
Lovely Lyca lay.

Seven summers old
Lovely Lyca told;
She had wander'd long
Hearing wild birds' song.

``Sweet sleep, come to me
Underneath this tree.
Do father, mother weep,
Where can Lyca sleep?

``Lost in desart wild
Is your little child.
How can Lyca sleep
If her mother weep?

``If her heart does ake
Then let Lyca wake;
If my mother sleep,
Lyca shall not weep.

``Frowning, frowning night,
O'er this desart bright
Let thy moon arise
While I close my eyes.''

Sleeping Lyca lay
While the beasts of prey,
Come from caverns deep,
View'd the maid asleep.

The kingly lion stood
And the virgin view'd,
Then he gamboll'd round
O'er the hollow'd ground.

Leopards, tygers, play
Round her as she lay,
While the lion old
Bow'd his mane of gold.

And her bosom lick,
And upon her neck
From his eyes of flame
Ruby tears there came;

While the lioness
Loos'd her slender dress,
And naked they convey'd
To caves the sleeping maid.

-------------------------

The Little Girl Found:

All the night in woe
Lyca's parents go
Over vallies deep,
While the desarts weep.

Tired and woe-begone,
Hoarse with making moan,
Arm in arm seven days
They trac'd the desart ways.

Seven nights they sleep
Among the shadows deep,
And dream they see their child
Starv'd in desart wild.

Pale, thro' pathless ways
The fancied image strays
Famish'd, weeping, weak,
With hollow piteous shriek.

Rising from unrest,
The trembling woman prest
With feet of weary woe:
She could no further go.

In his arms he bore
Her, arm's with sorrow sore;
Till before their way
A couching lion lay.

Turning back was vain:
Soon his heavy mane
Bore them to the ground.
Then he stalk'd around,

Smelling to his prey;
But their fears allay

The little girl found is the one you have posted above, the first one must have been written before it.

To continue my last post, Halo and Marathon are not in the same universe, however it is widely believed and generally accepted that there are several "spiritual connections" (to quote GameJunkyJim) and some people think that Halo's plotline is almost directly parallel to that of Marathons.

This is why I think that it would make sense for my (i dont know if it was my second or third) theory mentioned in this thread.

  • 05.29.2006 9:44 AM PDT

In both of those poems, a "Tyger" is mentioned. This same poet also wrote about a "Tyger" :

The Tyger

Tyger! Tyger! burning bright,
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare sieze the fire?

And what shoulder, & what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? & what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

  • 05.29.2006 9:46 AM PDT

It is also interesting to note that in "little girl lost" it mentions primes and seven summers.

I suppose the next question to be asked is, "who does the lion represent?"

  • 05.29.2006 9:49 AM PDT

Also, the books Songs of Experience by William Blake that had these poems in it was published in 1794

1 + 7 + 9 + 4 = 21

7 x 3 = 21

7 and 3, Bungie's favorite numbers. Yes, its a stretch I know, and means nothing.

HA! I know this poem! I had to analyze it in English class.....
What is witht the 7, 4, 2, 2, and the 15? (on lyca.com)

Not sure, but

7 + 4 + 2 + 2 = 15

7 x 4 = 28 & 15 x 2 -2 = 28
