Another religious topic by me, this time relating Halo to the Crusades.

The Crusades were when most of Europe went to war against the Sarecans to capture Jerusalem, because they thought that Jerusalem shouldn't be in the hands of Infidels.

Some points to consider...

Covenant are like most of Europe, banded together to destroy us, and to capture Earth.
Hunters and Jackals both have medival style hand shields.
The name Covenant means a pact with God
Earth = Jerusalem, which the Covenant want to capture because we are not fit to hold it.
The Covenant AI in First Strike refers to Cortana as an Infidel.
The Covenant "Prophets" were told by the Gods to destroy us, like in the Crusades.

In the real Crusades, the invaders were beaten off and the Sarecans held Jerusalem. Hope the same thing happens to Earth in Halo 2....

No, it was the Covenant AI in the flagship Ascendant Justice and it called about 13 Covenant cruisers to attack Cortana and co. in the Ascendant Justice.

Anyway this is getting off topic.

hmm, wow, now thats a great comparison. Can't say I've ever really looked at it that way. Being a christian and all its interesting to see how those things parallel. People will do alot of crazy things for religion these days.

I once had a dream that aliens existed that strongly resembled the Covenant, and the intercepted Halo games and saw us killing "them" and decided to abduct two of our "warriors" to pit against the real things with working weapons, nades and shield suit. It was a weird dream and we (me and the other guy) had to fight and build up strength, speed skill and stuff and eventually fought our way out, across the planet and to the main spaceport, capturing a ship, returning to earth and fending off an alien invasion.

Wow, too much Halo for me?

DClabs the answer to your question is yes. Way to much halo for you. But I agree it is an amazing analogy. Do you think that the folks at bungie were thinking about that. Or mabey the history chanel was on wile they were thinking of a story for Halo.
