Hmm, the idea that Gravemind could be a Forerunner is interseting. But even if it was, it hardly matters. First off, if the Forerunner was nearly infected but survived (Johnson), then he would juist continue to live as a Forerunner. If it was infected, but not completely infected (Keyes), that wouldn't give him the any power over the Flood. What makes this so complicated is that we still don't know exactly what Gravemind does. Does he control the Flood as their single consiousness? Does he rule over them because they simply have no free will (ants)? Does he even rule over them at all? It's all full of unknowns. All we know now is that he has some connection to the Flood.

Answering question
I realized something. It was never said Halo kills the Flood... (I think) So what did they need to surive?
My Question
So why does 343 Guilty Spark say "Im grateful some survived"?
What they need to survive is a host, something they can infect and feed off of. But that only lasts so long. So Halo kills everything that the Flood could infect. Why don't they kill Flood? No one knows.
343GS was "grateful some survived" because he was created by the Forerunners, or at least used by them, and the Forerunners wanted to study the Flood. He is glad that some survived so that the study could continue, probably. That's the only explaination I can think of. He obviously wanted Halo activated...
