Supposedly starving the flood would kill them, so does anyone know how long it actually takes flood to starve?
Cause if flood being able to starve to death is true, then the previous firing of the halo systems was within the lifespan of a flood to not die.
It's a little off balanced to presume that flood could survive for the entire timespan that it took for humans to evolve to the time the covenant having just recently feed themselves to the flood.
Maybe the lesson this time around is that the flood just does not starve so firing off the halos would not change anything other than leaving a buffet of corpses layin around for the flood

How long ago was the last halo firing?

Most likely around 100,000 years ago.

the last time the halos fires was around... 170,000 and some years ago.... so we were just beginning our evolutionary -blam!- habilus roots in africa and getting eaten by lions whilst the elites were just little tadpole like creatures

I think it was 100,000 years ago. I don't remember where I heard that, but I think it's true.

The Rings fired approximately 100,000 years prior to the time of the game, 2552 A.D. circa 97,478

100,000 years of local time, meaning it could be 5 earth years or 5 billion earth years ago

Got-dang, how old was that signature?

2 words, Cryogenic Freezing. The library was made to "Study and Contain the Flood" I bet that when a curious grunt or an Elite wanting a reward for finding the ancient parasite, found a few frozen mini floods (i dont know the real name). They released one which attacked, evolved, popped, wash, rinse repeat, the Heretics probably released the flood on Delta Halo.

I remember 343 saying something along the lines of Halo "feeding the flood." Also, to "starve" the flood would only take days, their host bodies become unusable vary fast.

being stupid is to miss the fact that there was more to the thread than just the title's question as if your awesome answer settles everything that was asked.

If halo was set off once before than how would there be anything to evolve from?

But there is light, which is dangerous to you, seeing as you sit at a PC all day long.
