SantasRevenge is bad

Jetpack has finally been removed and the first real season of Reach arena has started. 343 has listened and thank you to those that hammered the forums with demands for the removal of it.

Arena has been getting better and better in just a few months. With the removal of the rating system and the reintroduction of win/loss style ranking formula was the start of many great things. Then we were given 85% bloom with bleed through.

Bleed through was taken away sadly and again rewards children with double pummeling, which was another step back.

Then 343 had almost redeemed themselves! They removed jetpack one of the most stupidest AAs since launch. I searched arena for the first time in months. It was all fun and games until I got asymetrical maps. These maps like Reflection, SwordBase and Uncaged are maps that are horribly unbalanced and gives Red Spawn a huge advantage. Map control and power weapons are simply given to red team. Now jetpack was crucial on those maps to break setups on swordbase and reflection without power weapons. It was the only hope for a team that spawns blue spawn reflection and even then red spawn was still a huge advantage. Maps like those were hard enough as it is with jetpack, now it is almost impossibly to break red spawns setup and power weapons with an extremely lucky and co-ordinated push which is near impossible searching in twos.

The only solution to this is to remove all asymetrical maps from arena besides the exception of powerhouse.

Instead of culling things, which occurs far too much, i suggest a re-working of the spawns. Ask a couple of community members who understand their spawns, and get them to re-work the spawns for optimal flow.

Asym maps make for excellent gameplay a lot of the time, assuming the spawns work well. Take High Ground from H3 for instance.

But seriously, don't remove the maps. Fix them instead.

I like your idea but it is very hard to put balance on asymetrical maps. They should stick to 1 sided objective games.
Oh and yeah i like Highground too. Fun for 1 flag, terrible for Slayer.

None of the maps need be touched. The fix lies with the gametype we play. The addition of rounds to Arena would mean both sides have equal chances as the spawns would switch in the second.

So you stay away from the ledges, roll with a team mate, and team shoot the ass that picked up the rockets. Now they are YOUR rockets. Playing smart and not running towards the other team that spawns near the power weapon right away. Amazing concept.

Rockets are the one thing that should never be spoon fed to a team from the start. Most Arena players agree the initial team spawns need to be changed.

Seriously, those rockets have been spawning there since Halo 2. And every Red I have ever seen go for them, guess what, immediately jetpacks skyward, looking for blues. Usually, the loud, flying, flaming target finds a plasma grenade (which, spawns near the Blues, imagine that), or a face full of DMR fire from 4 people.

It's not that hard to realize "Gee, Red spawns near rockets, I wonder if any Reds I come across will have those." Stop depending on something like Jetpack to help you out.

No-one is asking for jetpack back retard, but it's now impossible for Blue to contest the most important weapon on the map. It shouldn't have even been remade in the first place.

To be fair Reflection, Sword Base, and Uncaged are all lousy maps and with the except of the first, spawn changes aren't going to fix them.

They just need to be removed from the playlist. There are more than enough maps in this game to support Arena.

More like "Run around the map, and avoid the Reds UNTIL you figure out which one of them has rockets, then take them for yourself." Which is generally pretty easy considering Blue spawns near Plasmas, the Sniper Rifle, and Energy Sword. 9 times out of 10, the guy with the rockets comes to you, because he has the rockets and is actively looking for kills.

It is not that difficult to get around when you play smart, and work as a team. Which is what you should be doing in Arena anyway. Playing smart, team work, and no gimmicks or crutches.

Reminds me of a game I used to play, called Halo, actually.

That's crazy talk here. Everyone knows it's impossible to use different map areas and layout to your advantage.
Either each side must be a complete cut/paste of each other, or the map is completely unplayable.
Afterall, Lockout was complete crap due to being asymmetric right?

Hey, be fair, I mentioned the Sniper as well. Which, honestly, if you can't stick/snipe a giant flying Spartan, perhaps you should stay out of Arena, hm? Taking out the AAs, slowly as they are doing it, is getting Reach closer to being a Halo game. If that isn't what you want, pick a different playlist.

I didn't like Lockout for the sole reason that it was dark and a multi-tiered labyrinth.

Other than that it was fine.
