I believe that it's a widely accepted mentality that there should be a Human Equivalent to every Covenant weapon and that there should be a Covenant equivalent to every Human weapon, but I've never understood this. Many people are asking for a Human equivalent to the Banshee, a Human equivalent to the Needler, and even a Human equivalent to the Energy Sword (what's ironic is that the Energy Sword is really just the Covenant equivalent to a Human weapon: the Shotgun).
I like the fact that in Halo 1 every weapon is unique. The Plasma Rifle has Plasma freeze, the Plasma Pistol has Plasma Freeze and it can be charged up for a homing attack that takes down a player's shields, but it requires a lot of energy and it overheats the Pistol. The Needler has a secondary explosion to deal extra damage and it homes in to enemies, and every weapon is quite effective in their respective environments (except for, perhaps, the Needler, which is probably only effective in specific encounters such as in hallways).
In Halo 2, there are some new Covenant weapons that are essentially the same as Human weapons with slight variations, and some weapons were watered down to become more similar to some Human weapons, such as the Plasma Rifle that no longer has Plasma freeze. These weapons have been made less unique in the sake of creating a sort of balance between Covenant and Human weapons, when in truth, there's really no need to have a balance between the weapons of these two groups (it isn't even important for the story).
So I'll ask you this: do Human weapons need Covenant equivalents and do Covenant weapons need Human equivalents and why or why not?
