I know Earth's forces have been obliterated BUT why can't we have some epic battles. I mean in Halo 2 there were never that many allies in a level. Wouldn't it be cool look behind you and seeing 50 odst's or marines following you or an entire batallion of elites? I just think Halo has so much potential yet Bungie refuses to give us BIG battles. What do you guys think about the scale of battles in the Halo series?

That would definately be cool. I think that in Halo Combat Evolved you had a fair amount of marines at almost all times and that was pretty cool, but your right that in Halo 2 you didnt have that many guys. But personaly i dont think that there should be giant battles cause it kind of stays more with the idea that you are in a tight corner against the covenant and dont have many options open to you.

i have to agree man, i wnt big battles, i wanna charge into battles with like25 marines behind me, 3 or so warthogs driving fullspeed ahead, against like 20 brutes, tons of jackals and a few ghosts, with wraiths in the hills in the background firing shots at you, so its like mortars exploding around you, heaps of crossfire flying through the air, guys flying everywhere! ok mayby i got a bit carried away but id love that so yeah lol

there should be a few marines on earth so hopefully bungie will include huge battles between the ground forces.

They were gonna have big city scale battles in HALO 2, but apparently earth was "not a large frontier". Scale of fights they were gonna have in HALO 2 would be enough.

Any big battles would be cool!

Especially if it was like 24 player Coag CTF or sumin,Maybe even 4 player Co-Op.Any of that would be fine with me!

The reason there wasnt any "epic" battles could be becuase Bungie was limited to the power of the Xbox! No chance in hell would Bungie be able to pull what you are describing on the xbox. It's good to hear your opinion, but stop blaming bungie for what wasnt possible.

I think there should definitely be massive battles where you have specific objectives. Anyone played Kameo? http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/490/490038/img_2794907.htm l If you play it, they do have battles where a couple hundred elves and a couple hundred orcs battle it out on screen with individual AI.

In one of the Bungie Weekly Updates, someone asked about the polygon count on the Halo 3 MC, and Frankie said something along the lines of "Actually not that much. We're using normal and bump maps to make it appear higher than it is. We're saving the polygon count for something else" - I don't know about you guys, but I took that to mean huge battles.

^^^ yeah the Xbox's engine wasn't powerful enough to handle the load of big battles, H2 pressed it to its limits, i'm surprised the graphics looked as good as they did.

H3 is a different story though, the 360 has a better engine and I'm sure Bungie won't pass up the oppurtunity to chuck in a big battle at least once. I mean, we're "finishing the fight", what better way to do so than with a huge ground battle?

the trailer is about 2/3 of the way through the game so im sure there will be plenty of battles with large numbers of marines and covenant at first and then only MC will be left

Yep, I'm really hoping to see some huge scale battles in Halo 3. One of the things I loved in Halo 1 that wasn't really present in Halo 2 was the ability to "collect" marines, you always found more marines regardless of whether or not you had some following you from previous encounters in the level. This could lead to some really epic battles :)

Back onto topic, I'm would love an open plain ground battle, there should be plenty of opportunities to do this given the nature of the geography around Mombasa. Just imagine it, you as the Chief pressing forward across open ground with hundreds of infantry and vehicles at your back as you all mow into the huge Covenant force ahead of you, rockets and tank shells and bullets flying towards the enemy for hundreds of metres either side of you, it'd be so awesome!

I agree, it would be very nice if you'd get the idea that you're fighting a bigger battle. In H1 I really had that idea but in H2 I really get the feeling I am the battle and other marines are not part of it.

In Halo 1 you occasionally heard cries of help or information yelled over the radio and you had multiple marines around you at most times.

And more important you had some space to maneuver in. H2 really disappointed me in that aspect. The levels are quite big but I just kinda missed the freedom to maneuver to my own liking. I always felt trapped between 2 walls. Either walls of buildings, spaceships or even the hated invisible walls.

Now about everything on earth is destroyed I do believe everything should be larger. The Xbox 360 has also the possibility for creating larger levels due to faster processing. I hope Bungie will not make this mistake again.

Big battles sound like fun it would be interesting to switch up the pace of the game play by alternating between big and small battles.

halo 2 didnt push the xbox to its limits look at the games that have come out in the past year like half life those games pushed it to its limits

A Guide to Networking, Matchmaking, and Host in Halo (HBO mirror)

Bungie Friends and Family invitee, and sender of "random emails" about networking.

Even Halo 1 allowed players to get about 30 or so enemies by manipulating the scripting or the enemy, in certain places. E.g. the rockslide section on Alpha Halo; leave the area as the dropships start arriving, come back later, and there you go, about 30 enemies.

We need more of these kinds of battles in Halo 3, instead of small skirmishes. Or bigger still.

I'd love to see an old fasioned line charge.

Does anyone remember the desktop background with the cheif pictured with a Scorpian Tank and Warthog charging forward. I'd like something like that but bigger scale.

But anyway I'm sure the game will be great bungie never fails.

yeah, if it's the finish, we're going to have to be convinced. we need to see two armies going at it for a while in this one. and i mean platoons of tanks backed up by both kinds of warthogs and airborne marines. lots of 'em.

thank you man, large scale battles would be awsome.
think like call of duty 2, the hill level, you have tons of men trying to rush the hill, getting behind bunkers, with morters coming around al around you.
that would seem awsome in halo 3.
like a valley with tons of enemies and you have to charge, while worthogs go past you, some getting hit with plasma nades or torpedoes.

if bungie was to ever do anything like that, i would sleep inside wally world till it comes out

Just watch the Halo2 E3 trailor. There are 15 marines and 3 warthogs against tones of brutes and ghosts. Wow that trailer makes me feel warm downstairs...
Best "realtime" trailor of all time. (It was running on 2 xboxs!)

Big battles are probably one of the most waited for things by the community. I would love to see the Cheif and Marines prepare to fight the Covenant Loyalists in an unwinable battle when the Arbiter shows up with a bunch of Covenant Seperatists and the battle is on! This could maybe involve choosing to play either as the Arbiter or the MC. Plus a good locale for the battle would be in the ruins of New Mamabasa or down in the crater by the Ark.

Down, down to hell and say that I sent you there...

I came into the world with my legs forward and a woman cried "he was born with teeth!"

"I had no father I am like my father...I had no brother I am like my brother...And this word, "love" which old farts call divine be resident in men like you -blam!-. But not in me, I am my mother-blam!- self, alone."

You Are an Idiot

I think we need ONE big battle. Halo has always been a guerilla warfare kind of game. But since this is the last one, I think one big battle to finish it off would be great.

It would be like in halo 1 when the chief and 2 squads of troops were deployed on the island to take out the silent catographer. But in halo 3 there should be tank support on both sides peilcian drop ships, ghosts, banshee, wraiths, ect.

Just a huge battle on the African grass filed. That would be awsome. There would be peoplem screaming pools of blood every where (red, green, orange, light blue) you get the picture. In the mean time the lions would seat back and wait till its over and grap a few grunts for lunch

I think it would be cool if Bungie developed an RTS type game that we could play out some of the epic battles from the novels and play out a few that we haven't been told about, or with a skirmish mode that we could pit forces of human and covenant against each other. That'd be a helluva lot of fun.

In the run up to Halo2 comin out there were pictures and videos of the whole planet blowin up. I was lookin forward to epic lord of the rings size battles, massive nukes goin off and later levels consistin of desperate gorrilla fighting in a graveyard-like manhatten. But when Halo2 came out it was all; The didn't mean to find earth, they're here by accident and thats why they're not here in force. I thought that was such a stupid cop-out.
