In the changing American (and world!) social landscape, I think it is important for art (and I do consider videogames art... or at least they can be) to teach us lessons. I think Halo3 (because it will be so huge and popular) is a perfect opportunity to teach better moral values to people.

I think it is very important that Bungie keep Halo 3 on the values that our country was build upon. So much mass media is pushing us into a corupt filth pit of moral decay. We need to refocus and strengthen those things that make us strong.

First off, no swearing. There was no reason for it in Halo 2 and there should be absolutely no swearing in Halo 3.

Oh god please no PC police in Halo 3.

This isn't actually a bad idea.

Bungie wants us to be mature here in the forums, so why make an immoral game that will encourage people to be dicks?

No. Politically Correct is a tool of the liberal left to degarde our values, not lift them up. "PC" would be to consider foul language "freedom of speech", as opposed to just foul and unneeded. Foul language does not add anything... except filth.

Well, first language. It also revolves around ideas of Forerunners and Prophets. There is a lot of worshipping of false idols in the games. Now this may not be all bad, as long as they are shown to be false idols and that true faith is shown to be the winner.

The Prophets have already been shown false.

especially considering the recent ability of a mere trailer to teach wholesome christian values. (see the 1 John 1:17 thread)

I didn't like how in Halo 2, the devout members of the covenant were portrayed as blindly following the prophets. I felt it mocked those of us who follow our faith to guide us in moral decisions.

Yes, but there is clearly something else going on. I think in the end Bungie must be very clear on who built the Halo rings... and that the answer is very important.

It's a -blam!- game. Prophets and Forerunners are for plot. Come on. And please don't ever, EVER, associate "foul" language with the problems in the world today. They're just words. WORDS!!! Don't say this because someone told you they are "bad". They are no less bad than saying "darn", "dang", "shoot", and such.

They were portrayed as blindly following the prophets because thats exactly what they did! MOST never questioned them, they just followed whatever orders were given to them. They died without hesitation all because the prophets asked them to.

which is why I don't use those filthy words either... maybe this edition of the game can portray the sarge's struggle to quit smoking cigars... he may be fighting a galactic battle, but it's his personal battle that gives him the greatest triumph of all...

I think that instead of handy game tips, we should be getting educational messages in the matchmaking screen.

For instance, we could have the Food Pyramid, a list of all the US Presidents we've ever had, all 50 states and their capitals, a random vocab word for the day and so on.

so because they have faith in their convictions, they deserve to be annihilated? that's ethnic cleansing and genocide, and that's not what we should be teaching our children, thank you.

I definitely see your point. I think it would have been better if we could have seen at least a few find salvation and the good news. That would have been a better message.

And they can do all that in Halo 3!

I think the trailer shows us that Cortana being naked is a sign that she is evil and a temptress. It is a hardline to walk: to shopw moral decay and out easy it is to be tricked by Evil, while showing that solid values allow true salvation. Mater Chief must obviously turn is back on evil is he is to save the world.

Lol wow I cant imagine the story behind this. Follow Sarge as he goes off to buy nicotine patches! Be amazed at his withdrawl symptoms! Thats a lame idea.
