I was on Truth And Reconciliation. The level may have something to do with it or the graphics might.

Framerate creates a lot of lag. Halo is the worst because of the lighting and grass.

i can't put my finger on it but there was something displeasing about The Silent Cartographer with Anniversary Graphics as well. the interior forerunner buildings were fine though IMO

Really? I played with a friend today and we had no lag.

Waffles > Pancakes. End of story.
I <3 Bungie :)

I thought that Halo was incredible with the new graphics. Upon stepping out of the escape pod, it truly was like I was back 10 years ago, looking out on to that beautiful landscape for the first time again.

I had to play it coop to get the achievements , really bad lag,
made me feal sick .
Think something to do with frame rate.
Strange finished campaign solo no probs.

I've never experienced framerate drop while in co-op. I've seen input lag a few times, but it's usually fine for me.

  • 04.22.2012 5:46 AM PDT

im tryin to run some co-op on this message me if your interested

Damn right it is. I just noticed that the needler shards detonation timer is too similar to H2/H3/Reach. WTF happened to the Needler?! Even the PC version didn't have the needler shards detonating so quickly.

I switched to classic graphics to make sure it wasn't the new graphics affecting me and it wasn't. :(

Splash damage is also reduced. I tried to use my needler technique on TaR, and my god, the splash damage is reduced. Normally I can kill all of the enemies that rush out to the bay, but on CEA the elite will survive.

Even Reach would have been preferable since it's honest.

CEA is shrouded by mystery. 343 claims that it's the same experience yet there's so many things about it that are conspicuously different.

343's careless handling of CEA doesn't make me doubt H4 though (that's their own work so they're obviously going to put their all into it). Rather, it makes me doubt future handling of Bungie's Halo games. I fear for a H2 Anniversary...

I'm not sure what all this needler discussion is about. I just did some basic tests on easy between CE on oXbox and CEA on 360, and:

1. When putting needles into a grunt at close range, the time-to-detonate seems identical. Every time, in both games, firing from roughly the same distance, the detonation happened with roughly the same number of remaining needles in magazine. And considering that CEA seems to be a port of HPC, I'd guess that you'd wind up with the same results if you tested CEA against HPC.

2. I didn't test range, but at least on easy and in terms of damage to player, the actual damage inflicted by the needler explosions is the same.

I admit I was testing some specific cases and may have missed things, but I have to wonder if you guys actually made careful comparative tests before claiming that the mechanics differ.

When I claimed in my CEA review that the mechanics of the banshee FRG differ from the original game, it was a distinction that I first *felt* in normal gameplay. But I wouldn't have made claims about those particular details had I not gotten out a stopwatch, or made some other clear and easily reproduceable result (like firing a banshee FRG downward and falling in a banshee after it), to make sure. Aesthetics, even just different control schemes or different sounds, can have an enormous effect on how something is perceived.

I didn't do thorough testing but I'm sure that the needler detonation timer on Legendary wasn't so fast. I don't have Halo PC at the moment but I'll be re-downloading it for testing later.

:O

Also, I can't believe you guys are seriously discussing whether or not things like the needler work the same way. They have no reason to mess with the weapons and there's no way it would just "randomly" become weaker. I swear at least 90% of these "differences" between CEA/Original are based either on ignorance or purely placebo effects.

I'm not paying $19.99 just to get a game's offline campaign. ;) If I wanted to access the online mp, then I'd be paying (on the other hand, I only need to get the Halo Trial to do that, though I'd only be able to play on Blood Gulch).

Even if that is true, it just doesn't feel like it did in CE.

Btw, this is why I suspected it.

The needler shards seem detonate faster.

Most of the time, I can only get enough needlers in for 1 supercombine, even when the crosshair was right on the corspe and I was holding down the trigger.

As you can see, I was able to get more than 1 supercombine explosion in the dead body only a few times.

It was not a biased test because this is when I noticed the supposed problem. I was playing my variant of a whack a mole with the Goldie using the needler prior but that's irrelevant... unless you'd like to know?

You don't even properly test it, though... You didn't record yourself doing it on the original version. It seems exactly the same to me. They didn't edit how any of the weapons functioned at all. In fact, I'm willing to bet the new sounds give the illusion that the explosion comes faster. Sounds make a huge difference when it comes to how a weapon feels.

Edit: I captured some video on Halo PC for comparison.

I would have if I had a Xbox 360 hard drive.

The problem is that I don't play the game with the sound on. The only time I listen to the sound is when I'm checking my videos for static.

What was the difficulty? In that video, it looked like the Needler I know and love.

The vast majority are placebo, but there are differences that are easily measurable. As I mentioned earlier, for instance, the banshee FRG behaves very differently, especially when fired downward; with that particular discrepency, the test setup I used measured a 2.7 shot-to-impact time in CEA versus 4.3 for CE on the exact same shot (first TB banshee platform to ground from stationary).

I'm sure many of these mechanical discrepencies are consistent with HPC, though, since CEA is based on it.

It was on normal. It doesn't matter though because I'm attacking a dead elite; not a live one. It looks the same as how the CEA one acts to me.

I'm finding it hard to believe someone could actually set up a proper test comparing the two seeing as how there's no real way to keep the banshee still other than having it caught on something.

That's exactly what I did; I got it under the banshee platform, looked roughly down, and held backwards on the left stick to get it wedged and stationary. I shot toward somewhere around the trees beneath the first platform, can't remember the exact spot but I did it the same way on both platforms. Maybe I'll record it next time I record something else if you want (possibly tonight); it's a bit of a hassle setting things up.
