Subject: Directx10 Cards--What are they, and what will they do?

Halo 1 > Halo 2
PC > Xbox

So that means Halo PC freakin pwns.
Its basic logic, even an xboxer could understand it (mmmm, maybe thats asking a little too much)

What are they going to do?

Check out Crysis, from the producers of Far Cry, Crytek. It will utilize DX10, and you can see that these graphics are going to make the Xbox 360 and PS3 pale in comparison. PS3/Xbox 360 has got nothing on the future of PC gaming.

Look at those photo-realistic graphics! As OmniosSpartan said, "I wouldn't be surprised if H2PC wtfpwned Halo 3's graphics because of DX10."

Once dx10 cards come out, those 300-400 dollar cards will drop alot. I would wait till vista comes out to upgrade. Theres not much of a point in getting top of the line hardware now when new stuff, vista ready, will be out soon.

It will defenitely be compatible with dx10 cards. One of the features of Windows Vista that is being highly regarded is it's amazing support for all the new hardware. What I'd really like to see though, especially in Halo 2 Vista, is full support for Aegia's (sp.?) new "physics card". Holy -blam!-...

I saw the thing in the new issue of Wired and was blown away. If Halo 2 PC can take full advantage of a card like that then Havok can go and jump off a bridge.

Check it out

With Ageia's physics card, hopefully we won't see any of the ridiculous messed-up ragdoll physics in Halo 2 for the Xbox. You know, where bodies tend to bounce back up after they hit the ground, or how distorted they become when the body falls onto a rock. Oh well, at least it's not as bad as in Combat Evolved, when a body lands near an edge, the body droops down alot.

Ageia physX cards are already out. Yes theyre so cool that they replaced a few letters with one!!!! Omg just because they can do that i bet it totaly pwns. You can buy them on the dell xps desktops for $250 I think, but there are only a couple games out there that support it right now. I know ghost recon advanced...... is one of them.

You know about Crysis, people say that it was forced dx10 graphics, I don't know how they did it, but when the real graphics cards and dx10 come they're gonna be a whole lot better.

Dx10 and Windows Vista aren't coming out for at least half a year, whichmeans more improving and polishing, which means those graphics are gonna look a whole lot better than that. :)

do u actually think dx10 cards will start at $600? they better be worth it

no, not all dx10 cards will cost $600. Those will probably be the upper high end of the spectrum. I bet there will be some within the $100-200 range just like now. Just because its new technology doesnt mean that there will only be high end cards. They want it to be affordable so that more people can buy it, instead of just a few with no lives who would actually spend $600 for a videocard.

for example, look at the new AM2 socket AMD processors. They have a sempron for only $68. I know its not a videocard, im just giving an example of some new technology that isnt insanely expensive. For the most part AM2's are pretty cheap. The 64 3800 AM2 socket is only $295. I remember when the original 939 3800 came out. It was like $400

Ageia's PhysX card is another great addition to the PC gaming world. Just as positional, realistic surround sound audio or 3D accelerators were when they first came out. They were new, bold concepts which eventually became the household products that we all know and love.

basically, because processors cant handle all that information, we need a physics card to do that. They will eventually be incorporated into the graphics cards (starting with the dx10's), so you can expect to see some high prices on the upper end.

Yay! This means awesome, rocked out, hot new GPUs that will shake the PC gaming world and some incredibly huge dents in people's wallets. People's credit cards are going to start bleeding right after people start purchasing the card when they get on the store shelves.

PS3's got nothing on this.

I know I may sound really stupid asking this, but is it possible to install a DX10 card onto Windows XP? If you can't, explain to me why you can't install it, I would like to learn more about DX cards. If you CAN though (although i doubt it myself), I can't wait to get my hands on it. xD

No it doesn't. You have to admit though, consoles are starting to catch up.

EDIT: dangit lpjuunin you beat me to replying kim while I was calculating how much more powerful a 360 is compared to my computer.

You mean about how when DX10 cards come out that it will make consoles' graphics quake in inferiority?

PCs>Consoles

i dont see why you couldnt, unless they have a software validation program in the DX files.

Wait, so you're saying it's possible?! Shoot, that is SWEET! If I am able to install a DX10 card in my computer, will my computer be able to run Halo2PC? As far as I know, my parents will never get me a new computer (grr, Korean parents are so strict xD), so installing a DX10 card is the last hope I have...

well for one dx10 cards arent even out so we dont know. I suppose its possible, but I think the developers want to utilize vista's "advanced" programming which is far "superior" to xp. MS claims that vista is going to be amazing and revolutionize computers, but thats what every company says about their products.

edit - yea, ps3 does have a physics chip integrated in it.

Well you never know, just like mircosofts xbox, people thought it would fail and be destoryed by sony's ps2, however in the end the xbox lived and sold around 20 million units. However window's Vista might acutally shake things up for the PC.
