Of course the for reunners would want to kill the flood but is it really worth killing the entire galaxy, including yourself? It just wouldn't make sense. Killing the entire galaxy to protect it from being killed by the flood. IT IS GOING TO DIE EITHER WAY. The fore runners will die too unless ...
343 Guilty spark says that all sentient life of sufficient biomass will be killed by the Halos. He does not say that all of the sentient life will be killed. Only the ones with enough biomass to serve as food for the flood. This could mean that the fore runners were microscopic organisms or somehow don't have alot of biomass.

what do you think?

Nice thought about them being too small to die from the Halos, but them not being sentient...umm...no. How could they be non-sentient if they built all the halos and the artifacts and everything. You should rethink that. But otherwise, good job.

You forget... the Halo rings are designed to whipe out life in this GALAXY. A galaxy is different from the Universe.

If the flood spread past our galaxy... they could infest the whole universe. The Halo rings are designed to contain them, failing that, keep them from spreading outside of our galaxy... at all costs.

"This ones CONTAINMENT and this ones great journey are the same" -gravemind

they did it to contain the flood from killing them and the rest of the universe, this way the flood dont spread past this certain area.

which then leads me to think that they moved to the 'covenant' galaxy that is why they left so many artifacts there but no halos because no experiments were taken due to the horrific past of the original flood/halo war

Because if the Flood get out of that Galaxy then they would infest the entire universe. The Forerunners were protecting all other life in the universe. Even if that meant killing themselves off. Why don't you get it?

Forerunner are probably not that small. Keep in mind, the forerunners activated halo to stop the flood. Well, the forerunners were probably being infected by the flood, which means they are big enough to be infected. Therefor, they are not microsopic. They are sentient as well, how do you expect them to build such advanced technology.

Dude...just take ONE look at the forerunner structures...if anything the forerunners were giants. And then perhaps when halo was activated humans were still in an early stage of evolution which might explain why some flood still survived so then maybe the solution is to destroy ALL sentient life but then that would come with the risk of no new life forming withing the galaxy thus creating a deserted galaxy. The most logical answer to all of this is that when Halo is activated and destroys the sentient life with sufficient biomass to sustain the flood while the lowly evolved life forms keep evolving (maybe selective) so then the moniters can find out how to destroy the flood by conducting endless experiments in the time it takes for new intelligent life to discover the flood along with the Halos.

I mean selective as in like maybe the forerunners would somehow rush the evolution of a certain creature by adding an advanced strand of dna into their system in which the moniters recognise as "reclaimer"

Elite 3000 was HERE >:)
Master Chief looked up at the Brute Captain, the Brute Captain looked up at him. Master Chief quickly aimed his rifle at the Brute's head and said, "LOLOLOL GTFO MY ROFLCOPTOR j00 N00b! LOL"

Wait, remember in Halo:CE when you came to the structure where the marines are hiding in the Level Halo? Cortana said that the entryways and other doors or whatever were small enough to let a human inside, that saying even elites can enter it even though they are 8 feet tall. So the forerunners would ahve to make it so that they could also fit in it. So I think they were the size of the Master Cheif, about 7 feet tall.

if the galaxy was meant to be deserted, why r there machines.whats the point of having robots ifthere is nothing alive. the forerunners wanted someone to stumble on the halo and know what it is. because they knew it couldnt be contained forever and if it couldnt, there would have to be intelligent life to be able to reach halo.

universe > galaxy

who's to say the forerunner did not flee to another part of the universe before firing halo. maybe there were a select few induviduals of foreunner who volunteered to be left behind so that they could activate the ring... they have to be sentient life forms, i mean check out the control panel after you defeat the enforcer and bring down the shields. there's aactivation switch in the form of a six fingered hand,( \||||/ ) the foreunner built this so that they could use it. some speculate that it could be just convenience for both lefty or righty, but who knows.

bottom line - they had hands...

those hands built those rings.

when I picture the Forerunners in my mind I see these tall slender graceful creatures, with long limbs, long fingers, etc. I believe they coexisted with humans and covenant at some point, using them as servants or workers, helping the Forerunners with random tasks. Then the covenant got power hungry and rebelled against the Forerunners, trying to take over, accidentally (or purposely) releasing the Flood from the Forerunners' research facilities.. but the humans remained loyal and trustworthy. So they banished the covenant to one part of the galaxy, and placed the humans at the opposite end (or at least put some of them in the Ark to keep them safe from Flood and Halo's firing), entrusting them to reactivate Halo if the time ever came.. which is why humans are called Reclaimers.

The Rings are weapons off last resort, not the first, second, whatever, the last. I think that the Forerunners were already few, if you were sure you were going to die how would you want to go: quick and relatively painless and with the surity that you condemned the enemy to at least 10.000 years of doing nothing or painful and having your body serve as you murderers host?

It means that some smaller organisms will survive, and they will evolve into new life.. aka.. Humans and Covenant.
