I was playing halo 2 campaign and i noticed something. Gravemind had the two biggest threats against the flood in his hands and he let them go. you would think that he just wanted them to stop the activation of the ring which would save him but th flood still attack chief in following levels. wtf! is he a friend or foe? help me out here.
i think he might be an ally because that would suprise the hell out of everyone and i think that is what bungie wants.

PLEASE post your personal thoughts

He didn't let them go, he sent them to find the Index. "...there is still time to stop the key from turning..."

John and the Arbiter were not the biggest threats against the flood. Truth was. The gravemind let them go becuase he could use them to stop halo from being activated.

you would think that he just wanted them to stop the activation of the ring which would save him but th flood still attack chief in following levels.

The Flood attack the Chief becuase

* The gravemind hasno control over them

or

* The index was out of reach of John at this point, and there was nothing else he could do.

I think he appears to be friendly, but all he wants is for everything to go his way. If it works out better for him to be your friend, then he'll be your friend. If its better for him to be a foe, he'll take it. Although no matter what i don't think he is ever your " real friend" and i agree with DSHiSTaH. He needs to be destroyed!

Its all about current situations and eventually about survival.

The flood want the same thing as the humans but also need to survive so they will attack whatever is around, I also dont think gravemind has full control over the flood, maybe not even a higher "ranked" flood but a lone intelligent one.

Gravemind is definately playing things to work in his favor, their is always the possibility that he wasnt telling the truth to arbiter or mc about halo's, or maybe what he said was the truth but not the full truth. He could have very easily left out certain details that if known would change some peoples minds about the halo's.

It is all about plot twists and making you go "ohhhhhhhh" at certain points in the story that makes it good. I had one of those moments when we found out what 343 wasnt telling us in halo 1 and Im sure bungie will make it happen in the last of the triliogy.

im not sure garvemind is the brains of the flood i think hes a creation of the forruners "i am a monument to all your sins" or somthing else like ojjjpppp dude said gravemind never stoped the flood from attacking and why would he trick them like cortana said if he was using them in the fist place?

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

like the other dude said, gravemind was playing them to keep itself alive. it made MC and the arbiter it's puppets, and cortana even touched on that in the beginning of MC last mission.
