I just created this group yesterday, so if you join you will be among the first members.
The idea of the group sounds silly at first, but hear me out. It's an easy, and worthy cause.
Do you remember when we were young and our teachers told us "sound it out"? ..And they lied? Do you remember learning the basic principles of phonics? ...And then we realized they don't really apply in English?
It's quite time for an English language revolution, wouldn't you say? It may sound ridiculous to many, but think about it. Why don't we speak Old English anymore? Because over time, the people, the English-speakers, developed something better. Well we need something better. And how is it going to change? By the English-speakers. That's us. We make the language better by making the language better. That simple. There's no calling Webster, there's note vote in Congress, it's simply a matter of us choosing to improve the language we speak every day. It's not just to make it easier for us, but to make sense to foreigners learning it. Wouldn't it be nice if all that stuff we learned about phonics in kindergarten didn't go out the window? If we achieve this, we will be making English better for the future generations.
Now, of course, continue to spell properly in school, and for business, so you can be taken seriously. But if you do this outside of those realms, eventually English speakers won't have to spell ridiculously WITHIN those realms.
Ever heard of the U.S. military rank Colonel? (It's pronounced ker-nuhl). ..WHAT?!
Double O says "book", but it also says "mood".
Audibly, "kite" and "light" rhyme. The G doesn't even have a reason to be in "light". G normally says what it does in "golf", "leg", and "wiggle".
PH for "phone" but F for "frog"?
And what about I-E, E-I?? You may say, there's a rule for that; I after E, except after C. Oh, yeah? Then what about these words: [http://www.morewords.com/contains/cei/] ?
We could go on, and on, and on.
In the group, we discuss phonology and which letters should make which sounds and when, what makes the most sense consistently, organize an improved dictionary, and promote usage outside of the group (while texting, on Facebook, etc.). Let this take over. It will be worth it.
There are easy ways we can fix this language.
First of all, we eliminate C, X, and Q from our alphabet. The sounds can all be made with other letters we have. CH can be made with TSH, this is more phonically correct anyway. I say we start transforming English into a phonic language, not a random, crazy, rule-breaking language that makes no sense. It's very difficult for people to learn. Why does it need to be? Let's start changing the language NOW. WE are the English-speakers.
Will you sound like an idiot in writing to most people for a while? Or even to yourself? Yes. WHO CARES? When people realize how much more efficient this is, it won't matter anymore.
Before saying this isn't that important, it's not like I'm saying die for it, sure this isn't a massive cause, but it's EASY. It doesn't take a lot of trouble, and it will make a positive change for us and future generations. So my question is, WHY NOT?
For those, if there be any, who may decide to follow me in this movement, we need to establish consistent phonics for the English language, that apply equally for EVERY word. Let's figure this out together.
If yu agree, joyn me. And remember, frendz...
Sownd it owt.
