Subject: Do Halos kill Flood?

In Halo 1 Cortana said "Halo doesn't kill Flood. It kills their food." But we've seen video footage (e.g. CEA terminals) showing the Flood immediately disappearing after the Halo Array fires.

I haven't seen the terminal footage you've spoken of, but what the 7 Halo rings do is simply what Cortana said.
When the Halo rings are fired they wipe out all sentient life with sufficient biomass to sustain the flood. Therfore with no "food", they eventually die off.

When they "disappeared" in the terminal footage you described, they may have just left that area using ships that were left behind to search for more life to assimilate.

Halo does wipe out its food source as well as the flood itself since it Destroyes all sentient lifeforms. You can get more info on this and the forrunners if you look on a halo Wiki or look for Halo legends Origins part 1 on youtube, which describes and shows how the Halos are fired.

(It is only a animated cartoon though)

I thought the Halo's would kill the flood too as they are sentient, but I'd never heard anything of it in any canon so I assumed they didn't.

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

The Halo Array works by destroying the Flood's food source; any sentient lifeforms with sufficient biomass to sustain the Flood. Without a "food source," the Flood does not grow any stronger and eventually dies off.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

They kill their food.

They kill all sentient life forms starving the flood of life, so the flood soon die because a lack of food.

I believe they kill any Flood biomass larger than an Infection form.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

It doesn't affect Pure Forms, but others are killed in the blast.

This makes the most sense seeing as pure forms are made purely out of flood biomass, whereas other forms are converted biomass which would have been killed by firing the rings if it wasn't converted.

I haven't seen the footage you are talking about, as I didn't hunt out the terminals, but I know the Halos destroy the Floods' food, not them.

It may not have been terminal footage, could have been a clip from Legends or something.

----They really should have used the SparrowHawk.----

I have Halo Lengends, from what I know, the 7 Halo Arrays, fired by the Ark, kill all sentinent life in the galaxys that they are in. In one of the episodes from Halo Legends, im not exactly sure, but it looks like the Arrays also kill the flood, although they are a parasite, they still have the Gravemind to control them, plus to flood forms have a mind of their own, according to the near end of Halo 3, which I recently completed on Legendary co-op. But yes, it will kill off the flood, as the ForeRunners used it to cleanse their Dyson Sphere World, which was getting infected. This world is not the same from the Halo 4 trailer.

KOTOR

I've read that it kills their food source, but Halo Legends seems to suggest otherwise

Kills everything in the galaxy with a central nervous system. Nothing more, nothing less, unless you specifically target something.

Trees sending electrical signals to each other would also be eliminated.

It does not kill Infection forms or Pure forms, to my knowledge, they don't have a central nervous system and they are simply pure biomass.
