Still using a pump-action shotgun over 500 years in the future I see.

omg not realistic stop game production plz

Note: NO images to scans will be present in this OP or my posts. I can PM links but I will not post them publicly on the forums for you. Most people have already seen them anyway.

Anyway, onto the thread. I'm sure all of us have seen the image of the Elite minor (blue armour); they have a different design, with this being a different game. Looking a little closer though, one can see they have a more...desperate look. They lack forearm protection, their armour seems somewhat scratched and the armour just frankly looks...more antiquated. Less up-to-date than the armour seen on 2552-era Elites.

What can we hypothesise from this?

Well, whilst Halo: The Thursday War (lol) isn't out yet, if the Elites are out far from Sanghelios not farming and are instead at the Forward Unto Dawn being hostile to Chief, we can assume that Jul has somehow pulled strings, being that he was the individual who wanted to a) Remilitarise Sanghelios and b) Crush humanity immediately post-war, whilst we are weak.

So essentially, Jul (or someone in a higher power position who he has manipulated) has ordered poorly-equipped Elites to come and confront the Chief.

...that's all I've got so far. Ideas, anyone?

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

Well according to The Return, which is in around 2558, such re-militarization didn't happen. The Elites certainly did not fight against humanity, they were busy waging war against the Brutes wherever they hid and they lost a lot of ships and could not make more or fix the ones they had.

Of course knowing 343 this story will be stricken non-canon because it introduces a problem with their canon...even though they had The Return as canon before Glasslands even came out.

I don't care if it makes sense, I hope this is just a small group of Elites, not the majority.

Might make a good story, but I'm sick of killing Elites. It doesn't fit anymore. I'd much rather be fighting with Humanity and Elites, not to mention the Arbiter.

Straight from the wandering mind of Watson 203

I know the Sangheili are struggling to maintain all of their ships post war because the other races of the Covenant, namely the Yanme'e and Huragok, did that for them. As for the armour looking antiquated, the San 'Shyuum were the ones that converted Forerunner equipment into things usable by the Covenant.
So with that in mind it makes sense that they are struggling to maintain everything they were given which, is probably why it looks the way it does. I'd never thought about it that way before, thanks for enlightening me.
As for their hostility, maybe not all Sangheili are hostile towards humanity. I know there were some Human sympathisers present within the Sangheili such as Thel 'Vadam, Usze 'Taham and N'tho 'Sraom (The 3 playable Sangheili from the Halo 3 Campaign). Maybe the group attacking John 117 is a faction within the Sangheili who still dislike humanity despite fighting the Covenant with them.
Really though, I'm grasping at straws here as I haven't read Glasslands yet so I've most likely missed out some major things.

It probably will only be one faction of Elites; i.e. the faction of Elites who follow Jul's view of being hostile to humans and re-militarising.

Whereas, in my opinion, another faction will follow the Arbiter, who are at least co-operative with humanity, and we wouldn't fight the Arbiter's faction of Elites.

I will own everyone in Halo: Reach

According to Glasslands, not every Sangheili was ok with a cease fire with humanity. So I think the Covenants MC will encounter on Halo 4 will be a "Rebel or Separatists" Sangheilies and some loyal grunts, meanwhile Sangheilios is in peace with humanity.

Check out my Youtube Channel!

i have read the GI articles and there is a moment were cortana suggests that the intruding elites and grunts are a patrol of scavengers/pirates.
