If Bungie really could perfect it, I would wait.:  44%

I would wait one year, not two.:  9%

I want Bungie to take as much time as possible.:  16%

Total Votes: 68

NOTE: PLEASE read the whole post before you vote, it might change your mind.

DOUBLE NOTE: This is not in anyway a Bungie/Halo2 bashing post. I admire both of them.

First let me start off by saying that while Halo 2 is one of the best games I've ever played, it wasn't THE best. Halo 2 was actually a dissapointment to me because it didn't live up to what I thought it would be. Please do not confuse my dissapointment with the game with me disliking it. I do not dislike Halo 2, I played it for a long time and I had a lot of fun.

So why was I dissapointed with it? Because I believe Bungie didn't make it as good as they could have by not taking the time they should have. We all know the countless things that had been scrapped from the game (just watch the E3 demo and you'll be scratching the surface) and could have made it so much better. Bungie basically threw Halo 2 together in TEN MONTHS. Does that sound like a good amount of time to take with something so important to you? I'm not blaming Bungie though, they made the game look so good that they had to get the game out soon or the community would get pissed.

Anyway, what I'm really trying to say is that Bungie actually showed potential with Halo 2. Halo 2 was awesome, and they made it in ten months. Imagine how good a game could be if Bungie REALLY took their time with it. That could be the case with Halo 3. I'm worried about Halo 3 because I'm worried that Bungie might make the same mistake as last time: make a game that, while is spectacular, is nowhere near what it could be. I'm also worried that because the reason Bungie might tend to rush something that shouldn't be rushed is because they think that their fan base is very impatient.

So, why don't we show what we think. Before you vote on the poll, don't think about how great Halo 2 was, but how great it could have been. Just imagine, think back to what you thought when you saw the E3 2003 trailer of the original New Mombasa demo. Think about what you REALLY expected from Halo 2. And think about what Bungie is capable of; they have proved themselves to be great time and time again.

So, if it took two extra years to fully perfect Halo 3, would you wait patiently? Or would you cause a protest outside Bungie Studios?

No matter what you do in life, you will disappoint someone.
No matter what you say, you will offend someone.
No matter what you think, someone will think you're an idiot.

Find and eliminate these people.

If it took an extra 2 years, I'd be wondering what they screwed up on so badly that it would take another 2 years. If it's just perfecting a game, a few months would be more realistic, adding years onto the development would probably mean throwing out the game engine and starting over...

While I agree that Halo 2 did not live up to the expectations I had, and I agree that it's largely due to the fact that Bungie tried to squeeze too much game into what became too little development time, I think the real reason we'd be more willing to wait for Halo 3 is we still have halo 2. How much Halo CE can you play in a LAN party before you need some fresh blood for competition? With Halo 2 they solved that problem with the XBL compatibility, outside of the obvious problems with cheaters and getting the matchmaking just write we can keep ourselves entertained with Halo 2 until the Bungie decides to cut us off.

Do i want them to spend as much time as it takes to get Halo 3 perfect? Yes, do I expect them to push the release date back? Probably, but I just don't see them pushing it past the 2007 holiday season.

Generally speaking, more time = better game.

Works out glitches, adds new snazzy stuff, you know.

I could wait.

I don't care how long they take. If this is to be the final game in the trilogy (as they say it will), then it needs to be the best game possible. Frankly, if they took 5 more years to make it, I'd be restless, but I wouldn't be angry.

The only issue with the game being delayed would be an unhappy community. I realize that the majority of the Halo fan base has probably learned its lesson after essentially forcing Bungie to produce Halo 2 more quickly than they should have, but I doubt the newly discovered patience would perservere through a delay. I could easily imagine the community either becoming upset with Bungie, or even possibly losing interest altogether.

However, I'm not too worried about this game. I'm sure Bungie has also learned its lesson after rushing Halo 2. The people at Bungie are very intelligent, contrary to how some people seem to treat them. I'm sure they won't make the same mistakes twice.

You think a lot like me. What I'm trying to do with this thread is to see just how much patience the community has. The very last thing I want to do is put pressure on Bungie to release Halo 3 before they have made it as good as they can, or near that. Bungie may take more time with it, but I'm fearful of the community reaction. Are people going to start riots outside Bungie Studios if the game gets substantially delayed? There are enough fanatics about this series that something like that could happen, and all it would do is pressure Bungie to release unfinished work just like they did with Halo 2.

Well they said the started right after Halo 2 so they have been working on it for 18 months now plus the remaining 7 in this year and a possible 12 months next year for sure it will have been in development for 25 months (Just over 2 years) plus an unknown number more for 2007 (I think it will be released in November) so they should have had plenty of time to make it. I dont care when it's released as long as it is not in 2009 2008 is kinda okay but that is kind of pushing it for me.

Are you kidding!!! 2009... I would be gutted...

Look, Bungie ARE NOT going to need till 2009 to complete this thing.... are you people mad!!

They've been working on it since the end of Halo 2. They already knew a heck of alot about how they wanted to end it all by the time they'd finished Halo 2. They've probably been working with early 360 machines since as soon as 'the one known as Bill' could get them to the team.

People, they've had two games to learn from.

They have their battle plan. The lines are drawn. The field is set. They charge in 2007.

We'll get it in 2007 and, guess what, it will ROCK!!!

Peace.

(Post-script) I know Halo 2 is not perfect but, for all those going on about how it was a disappointment, what FPS do you play at the mo as an alternative?

Just curious. See, I can't seem to find a better online experience than ... err... HALO 2

Personally, I would love to wait until 2007 to get Halo 3 if it meant that Halo 3 would be nearly perfected. I'm quite patient and I have quite a bit of games, and I don't play on my Xbox that much, anymore, because I usually do homework or talk with my friends (although I'm sure that I'll be playing more on my Xbox during summer), so I can wait for quite a while for Halo 3 to come out. That doesn't mean that I want to wait for two years for Bungie to perfect every little graphical detail on every weapon, but if Halo 3 is unfinished, then I will wait for a while for Bungie to finish it. However, that does not mean that Bungie should get another two years to work on Halo 3 if they wasted a large portion of their time already.

In 2009 Xbox will probably be announcing a new console, and I seriously doubt it will be take 2 years to "perfect" a game, which is impossbile anyway.

No game will ever be "perfect", if it was it would never coem out, there would just be more added to it continuously, that's why there are dead lines. All you can hope for in Halo 3 is that it is the best game that can be developed in the given time period.

Everyone who says H3 was a dissapointment has no sense of how a game is developed. Bungie had a set deadline, and they HAD to meet that deadline, regardless of what the game was like at that point. You can -blam!- about what could have been added or changed all you like, but if you were in the same situation you would probably have to make the same choices as Bungie did and leave out stuff that you had wanted in the game.

Bungie have set their deadline, and all I hope is that they produce the best game humanly possible in that time.

I'm told the problem with Halo 2 was that the script they first put together was too advanced for the Xbox to cope with, so it had to be rewritten in a short space of time, thus, the game was rushed. This shouldn't be a problem with the development of Halo 3. Anyway, I'm willing to wait longer for the game to come out so it can be a really great experience.

This really is a little silly.

I mean, what is this 'perfection' you speak of?

Bungie have, like it or not, a certain amount of time in which to deliver a game for the 360. That comes as part and parcel of working with Microsoft in a hugely competitive environment.

I mean that's not to say Microsoft aren't going to be sympathetic to the Bungie team and the creative processes involved in making Halo 3. Yet the bottom line is they will be contracted to deliver this title within a certain (reasonable) time-period. That 'time-period' will be offset against the immediate considerations of a new Sony games platform and the relative potential of the new Bungie game's impact upon sales of the console. It's just the way these things are done....welcome to capitalism.

Now Bungie seem to have known very early on they'd be straight into working on Halo 3 for the 360 after Halo 2. That makes for some very positive news in terms of development. It means that many of the hiccups and fall-backs that beset Halo 2 are very unlikely to befall the development process in Halo 3 as they already had much of the story and groundwork laid before they got into the nitty-gritty.

As many here are aware, these factors proved the biggest setback for the second installment as time-factors, as well as potential hardware considerations, meant many original ideas had to be scraped if the game were not to be pushed back for a very considerable amount of time.

Some may argue this is where things went wrong. That said, Bungie (or at least many members of the team in the Halo 2 dvd) were ultimately positive about the extra pressure such a deadline brought with it. There seemed general agreement that, although it was always great to be creative, sometimes you just had to say "enough" and get to work finishing the game you wanted to make. I can sympathise with that sentiment; sometimes extra time can amount to little but extra complications. Those add more time, and so on...and so forth...

Given that we know Bungie have been working on this title for a while. Given that these guys have already made two of these games and likely had a good idea where they were going in advance of starting this last installment. Given this team's capacity for ... well..... brilliance. I think 2007 is a realistic date... and I think they'll do just fine.

Quick as a razor, sharp as a bullet.

i said 2007, but i didn't mean NO DELAYS in an "i want" way.

  • 05.31.2006 3:16 AM PDT

Seeing as it's the last game in the trilogy I'd be happy for it to come out whenever so long as it was as close to perfection as they could make it. I would laugh my arse off if they said 2009 - these forums would be hilarious

While i think bungie should have enough time they need to perfect the game, i want the game in 2007... see I am already losing interest in all video games and do not play any video games anymore. The only video game that would get me back would be halo 3 (or possibly mgs4). So if they wait till 2009, i will be out of college and i fear i will lose interest in it altogether and not play it :(. plus bungie needs to release so it becomes the "KILLER APP" to combat with the ps3. So i highly doubt they will wait till 09 anyway.
