Karen travis is an amazing author. Glasslands was awesome. Why didn't u like it?
Poor treatment of established canon.
The Elite/Human Relationship: Before Glasslands was released, the Elites and humanity had a special relationship. No doubt the Elites hated humanity as they saw us as an affront to the Great Journey. In Conversations from the Universe, two Elites were discussing humanity.
>>> EXTRACT OF SANCTIONED SANGHEILI EAVESDROP// FOR THE ATTENTION OF JIRALHANAE MILITARY ADJUNCT AMBASSADOR >>>
The Humans are weak, but they are tenacious. Even the smallest ones hurl themselves against our defenses with honor. If only the Unggoy were as committed.
>>> I wonder about the Humans, Commander. Their technology is limited, but some of it is useful and their battle techniques are impressive. They are excellent strategists. But what I ask is this: Why have we not offered them the absolution of the Covenant? From the beginning of this war, the Prophets have made no attempt to absorb them or even offer the option of honorable submission. Why?
Perhaps they fear them? We do not know where their homeworld is. Their pattern of retreat is either hopelessly random, or brilliantly conceived. What if the Humans have more power, more numbers than we suspect? What if they lead us to a trap?
>>> No. I do not think that is the reasoning. They continue to lose territory, and pattern or no pattern, these defenses must be part of a perimeter. I suspect we are forcing them into a tighter arena than they care to fight in. Soon we may be able to use the Sharquoi. And their victories, however few, always rely on the same thing-strategy, brute force, or luck. No. The only secret they hold is the location of their homeworld.
What about the atrocity at Halo? That was not luck, nor brute force. The Demon is a mystery. He outwitted and outfought entire legions on Halo. Perhaps there are more like him?
>>> I do not believe that. We have seen their kind before and destroyed them. Their numbers have dwindled and there have been no reported sightings since our victory at Reach.
Then why do we continue to hunt them? When surely they merit consideration to accept and embrace the Covenant?
>>> Let us discuss this at a more prudent moment. A Jiralhanae approaches.
It's clear that the Elites viewed humanity as a worthy and honorable opponent. Indeed, we lasted far longer than any race the Covenant fought before being absolved. By the end of the war, even the youth of Sanghelios, notably N'tho 'Sraom, were becomign human sympathizers. However in Glasslands, every major Elites character sans the Arbiter feels that humanity is now vermin and must be eliminated. Somehow I doubt Bungie intended the alliance between the Elites and Humanity to become this hostile, drama-ladden relationship when the remarks of several Elites in the novels, the Conversations and the growing human sympathizer movement among the Elites is taken into question.
The Elite/Brute Relationship: We ALL knew the Elites and Brutes didn't get along during Halo 2. Seriously, you could just see the tension with Tartarus branding the Arbiter, the changing of the guard and the subsequent full-blown rebellion. Hell, even the Grunts saw it coming in...you guess it...Conversations from the Universe.

"Why are they so angry all the time?"
"Who knows. They say that the Sangheili and the Jiralhanae are vying for the favor of the Prophets."
"But the Sangheili have always been the favored of the Temple. No Jiralhanae can set foot there without first passing a Sangheili guard."
"You have eyes, Mehmep, you've seen them bicker and fight. And you have ears, you've heard the disrespect the Jiralhanae show the Sangheili. They hate each other. The Sangheili have lived too long under the shelter of the Covenant as the strongest of us. The Jiralhanae come stomping along and suddenly it's not so simple as it was."
"I'll tell you what's simple, what's simple is that the Prophets have shown the Jiralhanae plenty of favor these last few months. They climb rank faster than the Sangheili, and they are promoted easily. And you know what happened with the Bracktanus fight. He killed a Sangheili in cold blood within spitting distance of a holy place and the matter was simply forgotten by the Prophets. Even a Lekgolo would have been pulled apart for such transgression."
"They kill faster than the Sangheili, that's all it is."
"No, I think it's more than that. I smell trouble and I smell it coming soon. Between an angry Jiralhanae and a slighted Sangheili warrior is no place for an Unggoy to stand. They should parlay and have it done with."
"Ha! The Forerunners will return and anoint us all before they ever sit and talk civilly. I'm thirsty. Let's get a drink at the nipple."
We also learned in The Return that the Elites and Brutes continue to fight AFTER Halo 3 up until 2559. These are just completely incompatible races that hated each other. However according to 343 in Glasslands the Elites like the Brutes more than us, so much so that they give jobs to Brutes who essentially say, "Hey, we're cool and don't hate you guys!". Yes, I would totally buy that after everything the Brutes did, you know, fleetwide conflict, the murder of the Elite Council on High Charity, the city wide murder of Elites in New Mombasa, the Brutes EATING fallen Elites and the theft of Elite ships, mentioned in Glasslands ironically. But no, those savages are far more preferable than humanity who helped the Elites fight the Prophet/Brute controlled Loyalists.
Dr. Halsey: The actions of Dr. Catherine Halsey have always been shaded in grey. Yes, she kidnapped children, cloned them and turned them into the Spartan-IIs. However, she did this because it was the only good option left to combat a colony-wide insurrection that had no qualms regarding nuking colonies killing millions of innocent civilians, bombing public areas that kill innocents just to get at a single UNSC or CMA official, and hijacking ships and killing the crew. At least she cared about the children, knowing each one by name, not their number, in and out of their armor, testing the augmentations before administering them and by giving their parents closure with the clones. However in Glasslands, no positive opinion is given to Halsey. She is reduced to a paranoid, emotional wreak who everyone hates because of the S-II program. Meanwhile Colonel Ackerson creates suicide soldiers to merely buy time for the UNSC and nobody seems all that mad about him, heck Parandosky was going to give him the S-IV program.
That's not even the end of it for me.
