Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

I've made several friends here, 2 that I talk to regularly. And like 10 others that I have a chat with from time to time.

My question is this: do you consider them to be real friends, or are they merely people that you share a few common interests with on a website?

I would never discount the friends that you make here. Some of my best friends are the people with whom I have played games. We share a common passion, we have worked together to solve problems, and we have defended each other in imaginary combat. It creates a lasting bond.

"There's daggers in men's smiles." - Donalbain, Macbeth, Act II, scene iii

On a side note, it's really quite amazing how many Bungiers attend PAX. I was going to participate last year, but things fell through. I have hopes for this year, though.

*fingers crossed*

@DeeJ: The camaraderie that is formed when you play video games (namely games such as Halo) is astounding. I was not at all expecting such bonds when I began to game with this community.

The way I see it is that a friends a friend, whether or not you actually meet them in person or meet them from your computer screen. These forums are just like any other place where the same people gather - eventually you'll get involved in a conversation with someone, and next thing you know you're pals for a long, long, time.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Only people who have the same interests.

My story:

In early 2011 I joined a group on Bnet aimed at uniting british players. I made good friends with about 20 people from the group.

After many game nights, etc., we still regularly game together. I actually am in contact with them more than a lot of my 'real life' friends, who have all moved away and got married now.

Don't underestimate the power of common interests. Anyone who shares a passion with something I like will be on my Christmas lists.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

I've never really tried to make friends on the forum. Maybe I'll get involved with a private group one day and see where it goes from there.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

A friend is a friend till the end...

You have the power to make them what you want. It all depends on the effort put into the friendship/relationship.

"That's about all that can be said for plots, which anyway are just one thing after another, a what and a what and a what.

Now try how and why."

There are people that I would consider to be casual acquaintances and there are people I respect, though I can't think of anyone one this site who would spontaneously (or by prompt) think to themselves "Hey, you know who's cool? that homocidalham guy. I Could totally spend time hanging out with him."

However, regardless of how strong my connections to any individual user is, I love the community. People post interesting stuff and I respond. It's quite enjoyable and fulfilling.

You're all pretty awesome.

And I'm not really sure if I can truly call any of you my friends. I think I'd much rather like to meet some of you in person :)

I came for Halo, but I heard the Tru7h, fought thru Carnage, and stayed for Bungie.

To me, Private Groups have played one of the biggest parts in building friendships on Bnet.

Yes, I've made life-long friends here.

I really only share a few interests with certain people, I wouldn't necessarily call them friends.

Bungie.Match.com: Our Johnson knows what the ladies like.

Plenty of people border on the acquaintance/friend border, but I have met several people I could call true friends.

  • 04.10.2012 6:23 PM PDT

Ive always had trouble finding people on Bnet that I can actually relate to until recently when I finally found a group of people I can talk to and feel accepted by them in return.
I cant talk to them that often aside from Bnet they are scattered around the world in places such as New Zealand, Britain, the Netherlands, Canada, and the USA so our time zones dont usually agree with each other and my connection has been really derpy since October and I can rarely find a game without lagging now.

I still consider them to be an awesome group of people and though Ive come to terms that I will likely never meet a single one of them I still consider them to be true friends.

I've been here a decent amount of time to know you're all crazy

I've got a couple here and there. Not quite real friends to me however, none of them close to me physically
