I came for Halo, but I heard the Tru7h, fought thru Carnage, and stayed for Bungie.

Somebody fill me in. Halsey got arrested? I'm only like 40 pages into Glasslands.

Crap. No one has been using SPOILER ALERTS in this thread. Sorry about that. Then again, it seems you don't care if someone spoils that crap book for you.
So SPOILERS
Apparently ONI and Admiral P. didn't know Halsey was going to flash-clone each subject of the Spartan-II Program and use them to replace the abducted children subjects. They didn't approve of her doing it. As you may know, a flash-clone quickly degrades into a vegetative state within a year.

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

Chief, he'll throw it on the ground!

Whatever needs throwing on the ground that is...

Seriously though, I doubt the games will cover that kind of intricate politics and complicated plot points, they'll probably find a way to solve it in a simple way.

What I'm way more worried about though, is how Chief will react to Cortana's new, hideous, bloated face and hair?!
He'll most likely believe that the Gravemind got the best of her..

I could picture a rampant Cortana going on the rampage at the mention of her 'mother' being imprisoned, especially when she inevitably hacks into the system to find out the reasoning.

Then I can see John breaking her out of some form of tight situation and defending her from that point on.

The handling of Halsey's character by Travis was terrible in grasslands. It was so obvious because NONE of the characters was on Halsey's side, they were all on the witch hunt.

She incorporated her own experience to much when trying to create the Spartans image. She didn't get that they have never been as social as normal soldiers and this is shown by the line 'does this make my ass look big' by one of the Spartans.

I really do not like her work on grasslands, she could have done so much more if she had just done a bit more research and if by writing from a fair standpoint.

I'm going with he won't take it well if he does get back to UNSC civilization. He loved Halsey, and respected her.

I don't think he loved her. ONI won't kill Halsey because she's too much of an asset. But it would be satisfying to smash up ONI and cap the old -blam!- that runs it.

Not true. Spartans were social, with each other. Several times they have joked, reminisced or make sly and sarcastic remarks. They just keep it in the group, they don't allow outsiders to see it.

Given the situation they are in and after being through so much, being a little more open than normal is natural. Coping with the stress of possibly being alone and isolated permanently.

Sure, Halsey was made to seem like a villain. She isn't exactly the picture of innocence either, she did endanger the UNSC by taking so many Spartans away. Even if it did pay off in the end with new technology.

There's more to him than that. If a superior rank gave an order and John knew 100% that would result in failure I think he wouldn't do it. He'd rather follow his own instincts and experience to gain a better out come. But then again Spartans are just for destruction and putting fear in the enemy.

2553. Thats when. Sorry I didn't put *SPOILER ALERTS* in the title, this is a Glasslands topic. If you read the book you will find out about a lot of information about the universe, and Halo 4.

Also in the Halo 3 viral ad campaign one soldier reminisces about a time he and Chief talked and Chief told him that, "No soldier should be honored for doing what is expected." Now, why would he turn around and directly contradict himself by following an unlawful directive? If some 'shadow government' type of organization came to Master Chief with a law that violated someone's civil liberties or risked lives, you'd bet your ass he'd stand up and say, "No." As curtly and dryly as ever...

Apparently it was worth the risk for Lord Hood since he is the one who signed off on the transfer of Blue Team from Earth to Onyx. And let's not forget Parandoksy ordering an interrogation on Fred and his actions during the Battle of Reach, keeping him away from the defense of Earth while the Covies were wrecking havoc.

Plenty of endangerment to spread around.

John would probably be upset that she got arrested and worried for her, but in a way that is subdued and under control; it won't affect his performance as a soldier.

As for Halseys arrest..... Yeah it doesn't make sense. I'm not sure why ONI, an ultra-secret UNSC branch that essentially operates on its own and answers to noone, suddenly grew a conscience and Parangonsky suddenly decided that the S-II project was the worst thing that ever happened to humanity (despite being the key factor that won the war and guaranted humanitys survival).

If Halsey is guilty of crimes against humanity then surely some senior heads in the UNSC and ONI would also roll, and I'm sure that Parangonsky herself isn't exactly the most innocent person considering that she is head of ONI itself. Using the arrest as a device to control Halsey would have seemed likely if it weren't for all the venom and hatred displayed towards Halsey during Glasslands. Suddenly Mendez feels remorse and guilt over the S-II project and being involved with Halsey despite the fact that he also participated in the much more morally dubious S-III project which essentially created human disposable weapons.

Meh.

Or she goes off hhe deep end because of all the corrupted data she got from the gravemind and tries to commit genocide on the forreruners or the new spartans.

Not once did was Halsey ever stated as being bad. Everything in the book were opinions concluded without all the facts and context.
What are you talking about? The book was nothing but 400 pages of bashing on Halsey.

Then he will say "You just got Sarge'd."

Anyone else seeing ONI being the next Cerberus?

Only problem, with glasslands. ONI IS Cerberus for Halo.

Though in reality, Halsey should've been released damn quick. Traviss made a MAJOR freaking goof up by Having Hood NEVER question/debrief the spartans.

I mean, let's look at the FACTS.

Hood receives message from Halsey. Sends the Spartans of Blue team to aid her.
Spartans of Blue team return to Earth after seeing Halsey be arrested and taken elsewhere. They are present at the memorial.
Hood sees Spartans of blue team, without Halsey. Never goes over and asks "So what happened to halsey?"

Glasslands had Hood pull a major derp. Really, He would've gone, asked/debriefed the spartans. As his rank is greater then Paransogky, the spartans CANNOT keep a secret for ONI. Even if Parangosky had ordered them to keep quiet, Hood would've overridden it by default with his rank.

So he'd learn that Parangosky arrested Halsey. Maybe not the reasons, but he'd know she did it. Thus he'd confront ONI, maybe publicly.

Instead in glasslands, he looks at the Spartans in the memorial service, derps and forgets that it was HIS orders that sent them to aid Halsey, and Halsey didn't return with them.

Parangosky, IIRC, was going to officially release the S2 program details so that her replacement would have a clean slate. Only problem with that is really, She could recommend the replacement, but she has zero true authority to do it herself. ONI is supposed to answer to the Admirality board after all.

She arrested Halsey for the flash clones, and hated her cause of that. Which is bull-blam!- since before glasslands, pretty much all of ONI involved with the S2's knew about the clones from the start. She basically attacks Halsey cause Halsey had a heart to let the families have closure (Parangosky outright implies she thinks the Spartans can go back to their surviving family without... ANY -blam!- fallout to ONI.)

fun fact, in evolutions. When Chief finds his childhood friend? He's tempted to reveal himself, but holds his tongue. Why? Cause he knows that knowledge let public would -blam!- tear the UNSC completely apart. Humanity would no longer trust the UNSC forces and ONI. It'd ruin humanitys unity.

Yet Parangosky thinks giving the spartans their family records is a great idea.

Forgive the triple post, but Halsey did less to 'endanger the UNSC' then Parangosky did.

Parangosky had the infinity sitting at the edge of the Sol System, during the battle of Earth. Instead of having another ship jump out and let the Infinity borrow the slipspace drive to defend Earth, she let it sit there.

The Infinity also had Spartan IV's, which were not present at the battle of Earth.

Likewise, she appears to know exactly where Gamma company S3's were at, but didn't bring them back to Earth to defend it.

Halsey taking Blue Team didn't endanger the UNSC at all. Earth was losing anyway, and Chief was fighting at the major locations the Covenant focused in.

Oh, and that's not even mentioning Parangosky ordering Reach to be handed to the covenant. Keeping the planet in the dark about the Covenant forces, keeping the fleet away and clueless about the Long Night of Solace (Then getting very pissed when Noble Team and the army/air force destroyed it and actually defended the planet. Despite the fact if she truly wanted to capture it, she could've assigned those teams/let them know beforehand.

Seriously, there's a note about an officer wondering if fireworks were planned in a city, which was being attacked by the Covenant.
