I need to watch these movies.

2001 is not for everyone. The first 30 minutes feel more like a National Geographic wildlife study. Kubrick's style can be very slow. I first watched 2001 as a kid, expecting Star Wars. It wasn't. Gene Siskel (a legendary Chicago film critic - RIP) once told a story about the first time he saw that film, and overheard two Russians in the audience who thought they were watching a documentary about the US space program.

That film totally ripped of "Recess"

Lol 2001 a space odyyesy was made in 1968 recess was made much later. So recess just paired 2001 a space odyyesy.

I never understood the love 2001 gets, sure it was intriguing but the ending just kind of came out of no where and expected you to just deal with it.

Don't even get me started on the pacing.

I love anaylsis by rob Adger he is excellent at explaining the meanings of films, some of them are avaible in video version on you tube.

Hilarious. In which case, they went home and told the Kremlin that we had space stations, cryosleep, and the ability to travel to Jupiter in the 1970s.

As much as I'd like to believe that 2001's deeper meanings simply went over my head, it would make me feel like a hypocrite for dismissing so many other films as just trying to be 2 DEEP 4 U.

Don't worry about it. I absolutely hated 2001 the first time I watched it (last year actually), but after delving into research about it, I have come to some fantastic peace about it. It's genuinely mind-enlightening to understand it once it's been explained to you.

I could not understand the movie Primer when I first watched it, but after I did some research, I totally loved it.

Some films are designed to be that way. It doesn't make you a hypocrite. It means the directors did their job.

I could not agree more I felt the exact same way when I first watched the movie.

I tried to watch it too when I was younger and turned it off 20 mins. Maybe I should go back and try again with a new eye.

Checking out my profile I see?

I was home sick when I decided to watch 2001 a Space Odyssey, needless to say that wasn't the best time to try making it through that movie. I'll have to try again sometime soon.

You honestly think defnop552 is being serious? He's making an actually pretty funny joke/reference. It's also a nostalgic one for anyone who watched the show. He's just kidding around.
edit: I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but it is what it is.

So the high level gear is going to let people become space babies and shoot lasers out of their butts?

Star Wars.

  • 04.11.2012 5:55 PM PDT

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten
