Subject: The Reach forum never ceases to amaze me.

So Reach, Tell me why the DMR takes more skill then the AR that needs an entire clip to kill and gets outgunned by DMR in close range.

Maybe if the AR did what it was supposed to do and not suck at close range then MAYBE the DMR would tske more "skill".

Does the reach forum even understand skill? All i hear is skill gap, skill gap, skill gap.

How about listing the varieties of skills for me?

Argue, call me bad, do WHATEVER it takes to make you "feel" better, but hell is this what the Halo community has become?

A bunch of flaming, brainwashed miscreants? For shame.

Pretty much.

Most people here either complain about the game, insult others statistics, or fight over how they are better than other players.

Your 'AR is harder to get a kill with therefore it takes more skill' logic is faulty.

If it worked like that, than the Plasma Repeater must definitely be more skillful than the Sniper.

Varieties of skill:
Knowledge - includes knowledge of maps, weapons etc.
Reflex - reaction time basically
Aim - if you can hit them in the head or not
Strategy - ability to plan and cooperate

I'm not part of the halo community. I'm not even good.

  • 04.12.2012 3:18 AM PDT

You bothered not to explain.

And you listed some basic varieties, here let me just go from the top of my head.

Adaptation to a situation. (Yeah I said the A word, get over it.)
Stealth
Survivability
Reflex
Aim
Co-operation
Driving
Ability to counter AAs
COMMUNICATION

And ability to beat someone who clearly has better aim/reaction time to you (Adapting basically).

In a situation of ar vs ar of the same 2 people, the outcome may be different almost everytime. the gun is random.
The dmr, the player with better aim will win almost every time. Also ar has no range and its a chore to have to find a dmr to drop it for. The gun is almost useless in reach.

  • 04.12.2012 3:56 AM PDT

If the gun is so random then it is almost entirely unreliable.

In Halo 3 it wasn't very random vs the BR, but the BR still overpowered it.

Battlefield is a popular hardcore competitive FPS and thy use a mechanic known as bullet deviation, meaning the bullets become more inaccurate the longer you spray.

Is that random? Yeah, but its still a game that was made for competitive players.

Also are you THE Gamesagers?

In halo 3 the AR overpowered the br at closer ranges. It is very unreliable in reach. I can't consistently kill anything with it.

Yes i am "the" Gamesager. The extra s is what I had to use when I made a new windows live ID.

In my time in Halo 3, I eventually got proficient enough to the point I'd beat ARs at close range.

Maybe not melee range though.

And hey hey, my friend thinks of you everytime he gets in a Banshee.

Whats there to explain? Just because the AR is harder to get kills with, doesn't mean it takes more skill. And Gamesagers already explained the rest.

Adaptation is part of strategy. I told you I'm not part of the halo community nor the bungie.net -blam!- adaptsayers
Stealth is not a -blam!- skill. Its a tactic or a type of tactic that you may employ if are skilled in strategic thinking.
Survivability is not a -blam!- skill. Survivability is the -blam!- result of using your -blam!- skills.
Co-operation, I'll give you...but really unless you're in a 1v1 cooperation almost always falls under your strategy.
Driving is not a -blam!- skill. You might as well say jumping and operating turrets. If you were to say 'but analbumcover is really good at steering and splattering' well that's because of his aim and reflex.
Ability to counter AAs is part of adaptation, which is part of strategy. You'd need some knowledge to know what beats what too (btw,
Communication is the same as cooperation, which would fall under your strategic skills.

The only way to beat a player better than you in reflex and aim is to be better than them at knowledge and strategy (NOT -blam!- DRIVING].

Stealth and driving are not skills?

Then what are they? ABILITIES? Lol.

Personally I have no hate for the AR or any weapon in the game. If it can kill an opponent then I will use it and I have killed people with the AR many times in the past.

You want a sandwich? Sure. As long as you don't mind me putting poison in it.

Yeah. I use the AR, so what? All you can do is scream and rage about me using the weapon.

-The gun is comparable to a pea-shooter in terms of damage.
-Limited to melee range.
-Pull and hold trigger than mash melee for kill.

The AR is the "go-to" weapon for beginners since all you have to do is aim in the general direction and hold the trigger.

The AR does require some skill, the an extent, but it's very shallow. Everybody will be able to use it efficiently within a day.

It still amazes me people don't understand/realize that.

  • 04.12.2012 6:55 AM PDT

Funny, as a begginer in Halo 2, 3 and Reach I've used the BR/DMR once I realized the SMG/AR sucked.

Why would a begginer use a crap weapon when he starts with a better weapon?
