Subject: Why are we really afraid of Halo being activated?

One shot: one kill, zero seconds to live

We know that if a Halo is activated then it will wipe out all life within a certain area, but it has never once said that earth was within its range. i mean think about it, no one had ever found a ring prior to capt. keyes, and he was fleeing AWAY from earth to escape the covanent. also, for all we know maybe the arc could protect earth from the blast. the only reason MC stopped them from activating the ring was to save himself and the crew onboard the pillar of autumn and miranda's ship(can't remember its name). hell, if the covanent activated it, and we weren't nearby, then they would destroy themselves and the war's over!

I believe 343 GS said it was about two thousand lightyears.

there are six operational rings each with a range of 25,000 light years with this range the halos will quite happily wipe out all life on earth

some sort of subspace signal saying basically 'fire'

It will eliminate the Milky Way. Last Time I checked, Earth is in the Milky Way.

i don't truly doubt that they can't, but i'd like to know an approximate distant of the closest one to earth. also, most of the instalations have never fired, the monitors (i think it was 343) said that they have only run simulations, but no actual blasts. according to the covenant religion one did though, but only once and for only a brief moment.

its probably delta halo

i think it was that one, too. but in order to truly find out we'd have to visit every halo.

Read about my gaming here.

they did something 1.2 million simulations and all fired once, at the same time, all 7 rings, BAM, 7 blasts, one galaxy free of sentient life, earth is in the blast radius. it actually is, well, it is

2401 Penitent Tangent said that it was simulated 1.2 trillion times and one actual. The Halos fire all at the same time.

Dude, in the first Halo, Halo:Combat Evolved, many times it says, if we dont deactivate that ring, we and all of Earth is dead. Plus, other planets would die that humans controlled.

yeah, i know it fired once, but then how do the covenant know about it? how did they survive?

if you have a chance find a H2 special edition 2nd disc and watch the deleted scenes, they tell about the covenant religion and little bit about their history.

There's a forunner construct under the African sands and no Forerunners, unless we did it and then completely -blam!- everything up and got rid of all our Tech and landscapes, got rid of all our knowledge, and basically sent us into the Darkages without having the ability to rebuild everything we worked so hard to create. Earth is in range, otherwise we'd already be having jey packs and a -blam!- up apearence.

No we are probably in range. MC WOULD HAVE activated the rings by now if Earth wasn't in range. I seriously doubt MC would hesitate to activate the ring and kill the covenant just to save miranda's crew of like 200 people. that seems like a good trade off to me

I think we're afraid, because it wipes out all sentient life in galaxy....

In response to Spartanwingzero.

I don't really know. The only logical explanation would be that they were not in range when the rings were set off the first time.

  • 05.31.2006 3:47 PM PDT

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

okay, to clear up a lot of things that were said:

penitent tangent said that the ring had several simulated and one actual firing. so yes halo has been fired before.

as far as i've seen rings can only be fired upon activation using the index, the only exception to this rule is when they are remotely activated and fired using the arc.

their is no evidence to support that the arc protects those inside of it.

i recall the specific range of the halo rings but the entire network is supposed to be able to cover the entire galaxy, not the universe.

i don't think the rings fire at the same time, if they do please point out where this is said/or written.

i will admit that it is odd that the entire UNSC forces while going through space have never found a ring in proximity to our solar system, but hey, it's a big galaxy.

feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

i don't doubt anybody's ideas, heck i even admit i might be wrong. the only way to find the truth would be to ask Jason Jones. maybe the giant thing in the sand in the trailer protected earth's inhabitants, but did erase our memories. there was one more thing i wanted to bring to light. in the original halo game design there was suspose to be life on halo, like these large reptilian things, so how did they get there? here's a new theory maybe if your onboard the ring you might be safe.

  • 05.31.2006 3:50 PM PDT

I'm blue da ba di da ba dai!

One part of the galaxy is protected the part where the first halo was destroyed nothing reaches there so we a a plan if there actualy activated so we shouldnt be scared anymore thanks to chief.
