LOL. God, I hope you're trolling. (Honorable Member Conspiracy reignites)

Yes, OP, we're very aware of Bungie's disregard to pre-established canon and how they replaced that canon with a abysmal story with one-dimensional characters. It's very apparent.

They're both not that good.

shannon obviously did not put a lot of thought

They had to make some compromises to make the game "better". Obviously that wasn't successful.

I personally don't think either the book or the game story lines were that good, but it would be nice to have a little consistency.

@shannon now thats a good post should have used that in the first place

I don't know why Bungie should have used the story of some random author Microsoft hired. Well, if it had been extremely good, then it would have been worth a thought to adapt it, but imo it was't. It was just okay.

Might go throw a jumper on, a bit cOLD in here...
But OT, at least some of it is consistant. I could go with what Bungie used in Halo Reach the game, simply because it's them. It also goes with the whole "Game canon over everything else" school of thought.
Although, Eric Nylund, the author of The Fall of Reach, might've had access to "The Book" (of all Halo canon) so that would make what he wrote more canonical. Also, the book came out before the game so therefore by that ruling the book should be canon and the game shouldn't be.
Really i'm undecided on it. For me, there's as much for one side as there is against it.
On another note, not sure if any of you know, but the Defiant map pack was supposed to knit Halo Reach and The Fall of Reach together a bit more, probably due to the inconsistencies and some of the fans reactions to them.
See for yourself here.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

Reach and the Fall of Reach (mostly) fit, just read the data drops and you will understand how.

The Data Pads are supposedly information from a secret council of AI's who banded together to protect humanity aren't they? There's a Wiki article on it I believe.

EDIT: I found the page, the group is called the Assembly.

The Fall of Reach was released before Halo was released itself. They had no way of knowing the amount of popularity the game would get, launching both Bungie and Microsoft's Xbox to what we know them to be today. Reading the book I don't see a way of transforming that story specifically into a video game very effectively. It was an obvious choice to develop a new coinciding plot to go along with the novel. And whenever that happens you're going to get cannonisms.

Reach falling in a day was more dramatic and was the Pearl Harbor of Halo Lore. It showed the unrelenting force of the Covenant and made everything you did in Halo seem like a huge victory.
