For these past few weeks speculation on Halo's endgame has been rampant. Everyone promotes his or her own threory on how they feel the series should end, and everyone cites the phrase "this is the way the world ends" as proof.

However, the Bungie devs have confirmed the significance of the said words. Now, why would Bungie confirm an apocalyptic plot event and ruin it's astounding shock value in the final game?

The answer, prechance, is that the player will choose the way the world ends through his or her actions. Splinter Cell - Double Agent has a plot where certain goals are mutually exclusive, so why not Halo 3? (especially after the unnecessary flak we gave Bungie about Halo 2's plot)

Right now I'm not going to speculate on how Bungie could choose to implement a dynamic plot or a branching plot. However, I feel we should recognise that Halo 3 could very well be such a game.

Not saying your idea is stupid but if they did that i think it would ruin the series.Bungie just needs to end it and move on to something else.If there is a 4th Halo its almost like they are just making it to get money.

Halo 3 is the end of the Halo franchise. Therefore Bungie doesnt need to worry about the consequenses of a dynamic plot so long as each pathway has a worthwhile ending. Also, dynamic plots add replay value to single player modes.

They said it is the end of this plotline, not the end of the franchise, Although, yes, there is a good chance it is the end of the franchise I would just hate to see that happen.

doesint really matter to me what ending we get but itd be better to me in the end if the chief sacrifices himself to acheive something for something

So kinda like DuesX Invisible War is what your saying correct. That could be alright if done correctly but i could also hurt the game to I guess.

Everything will be gone long before me. When the first living thing was born, I was here, waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job is finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave.

Have you heard of the Cortana Letters? The words "This is the way the world ends" is in the first letter. And she's reffering to "out poet Eliot" when she says those words.
Cortana Letters.

The Halo universe will doubtless perservere after Halo 3, in one form or another. However, I would speculate these games would take place before the events surrounding the Halo rings. Remember, this war has gone on for well over thirty years in the Halo universe. A riviting plot is near certain to remove one of the four factions from the storyline (flood, human, covanent, forerunner (Halo rings)) and producing another entry would be difficult.

As for the Cortana Letters, even if Bungie selected the quotation from the letter, couldnt they add another meaning or context to fit the halo storyline?

I think he just means that in one scenario, the Chief might fall while fighting, and perhaps in another, he could save the human race...
