Subject: How often do you use the report button?

I have found myself using it less and less. Do you only use it when there is an absolutely horrible troll? Or when you think a thread should be locked?

What are the reasons you would use the report button for?

Also, if any mod would (is allowed to) like to comment on if the report button sends them a notification or not?

When a thread should be locked, in my opinion , or if a user is posting against the rules.

Sometimes I hit it by accident though...

Me too. Sometimes I wonder why people use the "Create New Topic" button so much.

Per Audacia Ad Astra

Not often, the mods usually find the bad content first.

Alright smartass, thanks for your two cents.

How about going above your basic education, and try explaining what the post would contain that you would want to report?

Bye.

I have a rule of thumb to press it once in every thread I read.

I really only use it when it's either blatantly breaking the rules or if it is completely off-topic to the forum. I have a feeling, which may not be shared, that nobody really reports replies anymore. I want a new wave of people reporting rule breaking comments as well as threads. (If that makes sense :-))

I think I've only seen a post blocked once, and it was in The Flood, when Jon Cena (A popular reoccurring troll in The Flood) posted his classic link. Only time I've seen that this year.

It's not me, it's the amount of reportable posts. I report correctly when it's needed.

I used to see it fairly commonly about the time ODST came out and the lead up to the announcement of REACH. It seems to be a dying practice to moderate replies.

And what makes a post need to be reported? Breaking the rules? Or leading towards the breaking of rules later on?

I would chalk that up to the fact that Bungie is dark right now, and those, as I'm sure you were really alluding to, were near the release of games, thus when B.net is at its fullest.

I use it whenever I feel someone's post breaks the rules which is quite often in The Flood.

If a post violates the rules I report it. If it cointains bad links I PM ninjas.

That's a very good point. Although I would have assumed that, whilst dark, the community would have hit a stable member level and thus would have had fairly decent community self moderation (reporting in this sense). This is not quite the case as some threads do go on for a while because they aren't being reported by the community, and with the release of game details from Bungie on the horizon the forums will be bursting with new members who, lets face it, won't read the rules.

This is the internet however and "The best-laid plans o' mice an' men, Gang aft agley,".

( +10 points to the person who names the author and the poem ;) )

I use it less often when it's a member I like and I use it more often when it's a member I dislike.

Google Chrome will pop up a text window asking to confirm if I want to report, so I don't have accidental reports. :o Just thought you'd like to know.

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

I don't use the report button. I never really see the need to use it. If a thread is bad, then the forum ninjas will see it anyway. If it's an off-topic post, then I answer the question, direct him or her to the most appropriate place for the query, and move along.
