Subject: Why do people hate Halo: ODST?

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

Because it really didn't offer anything new to the player.

It offered an entirely new experience.

The whole, "being in the shoes of an ODST rather than a super-soldier." Humanizing the player, etc.

ODST was different from the rest of the games and had a fresh, new take on things. I don't know where you can get that it doesn't offer anything new.

Most haters are probably butthurt at the lack of multiplayer, despite getting a second disk with every Halo 3 map on it
you just revised my post which explains why it isn't: sure it had enough content to pass as a medium - full priced game but people would have been more satisfied with a stand alone multiplayer for Halo 3: ODST.
sure it had an expansion + all the original maps for Halo 3 but alot of them gamers moved on to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

*cough*firefight*cough*

No, it wasn't matchmaking, no it wasn't perfect. But it's still multiplayer, nonetheless.

ODSTs can beat down Brutes easily just like Master Chief. Brutes are supposed to be stronger then Elites and Spartans, this makes no sense how an ODST can beat down a Brute like nothing.

The stamina system acts almost exactly the same as the shielding system, and then they returned the concept of Health Packs from CE.

Concept of stamina system in ODST:
*plays ODST*
*gets hit by Beam Rifle shot*
*gets in cover*
*stamina regenerates*
*comes out and kills Jackal*

Hmm... feels very familiar to Spartan and Elite shields if you ask me.

And the only things that were new was Firefight and the VISR map, that was it. Everything else was the same exact thing as Halo 3.

I know what the game is I'm not stupid. He said the game offered a new experience when in reality it didn't.

It's just Halo 3 re-skinned with new characters.

Never said you were stupid. All I did was spell out the title to show that although there is something new about this game it is essentially the same.

Yes, there is some stuff that are new. I said that above. Only Firefight and the VISR map were the only things new. Everything was ripped straight from Halo 3.

I loved ODST, there was more Halo 3 to be played though, and then Reach, and then school and a girlfriend hindered it all put it in the ground.

The SI is forever in my heart, however <3

i don't think it's whether people hated Halo 3: ODST, rather hated how it doesn't have it's stand alone multiplayer, instead the complete Halo 3 multiplayer + an expansion.

i loved Halo 3: ODST, 2nd best campaign an best firefight in the series so far IMO

Erm... Silenced Pistol and Silenced SMG? Stand alone mystery detective campaign? Animals (dead or alive) in campaign? Just the new things that people got used to to quickly and didn't persume them as "new".

There are 3 reasons why people hate ODST.

1) It's primarily a story-driven game, by far the most sophisticated storyteller in the series with heavy reference to classical literature (namely Dante's Divine Comedy - Inferno) and the majority of gamers are either incapable of understanding that or not yet at an age where they can appreciate it.

2) The price.

3) No matchmaking.

In my eyes, what ODST truly exposes is the intellectual gamer from the shallow and single-minded gamer.

Couldnt've said it better myself.

People who disregard story and co op are the ones usually hating on it.

This. Most people are just butthurt about the price tag. But, in reality, it had one of the best campaigns -- if not THE best campaign -- and the Firefight was fantastic. It emphasized teamwork and really stressed survival and gave you a challenge. Not like the Firefight in Reach. When you disregard that, people usually just hate on it because they're not playing it right. As funny as that sounds.
