The Halo 3 Sword Community has started a tournament to create Global Ranks (for swords) on Halo: Reach. The Global Sword ranks on Halo 3 were established when a few experienced sword players beat challenging sword players from Bungie.net and HaloCharts.com in 2008. They were undefeated and based the ranks on their wins. The Community was made in 2011 by these players to bring other players into swords. We strive to keep the ranks as accurate as possible to show and compare the players skills with others in the world. If you question the legitamacy of the ranks then please help us to be more accurate and enter whoever you think is more suited. The community is small and has been declining in Halo 3 recently and that is why we have started a sword tournament for Halo: Reach. The purpose of the tournament is to launch global sword ranks in Reach and to rebuild the community and promote activity.
Rules and Regulations for the tournament:
The tournament is single elimination, meaning if you lose once you are eliminated.
All matches are One Game
Games are to 25 kills
You get one delay for a match the whole tournament, a second delay is a loss and elimination.
Dates for matches are decided by the two individual players and their designated Game Hoster (See Rank System for "Game Hoster")
To sign up for the tournament and to get more details, sign up on the Halo 3 Sword Community website and fill out the entry form on the HRST 2012 Sign-Up page.

If you question the actual skill involved in swords then read this introduction to Halo 3 swords. (Halo Reach swords is a simpler version of Halo 3 swords)
Throughout most of Halo 3, the Energy Sword has been considered Host based, Connection based, or Lag based. However it is none of these. Swords are completely skill based and everything is accountable. This introduction is here to explain the skills involved with Sword GamePlay. (This version will only explain Melee Timing and Clash Battles due to the character limit.)
The Aspects Of Swords
-Engagement
-Melee Timing/Clash Battles
-Lunges/Range
-Footwork/Movement
-Jukes
-Style/Mental Game
-Lag Tricks
-Fighting Host
-Sword Secrets
Some of these aspects are more important to learn than others but one should never have a weak area for their opponent to prey on.
The beggining is Melee Timing and Clash Battles. It is the most important skill to have. All sword fights revolve around this skill.
Melee Timing/Clash Battles
The basic function for any sword battle is Sword Clashing. Sword Clashing is a period of time where two sword attacks, given that they are within it, will cancel each other out. The skill within Clashing is Timing. Timing applys to both the Melee attack and the Lunge attack.
Timing will always apply to any Sword Clash. First off one has to time the button to each slice and not smash it. If one is pressing the button randomly they will have the chance to hit "slower" as there is no way to tell if they are swinging as fast as the sword can actually swing. Learning to time would be the better way. It also decreases the speed of finger fatigue. So this will only explain button timing. Timing is actualy more complicated than it sounds. It's like drumming. In every clash there are two players hitting within a period of time called the "clash period", one of them is slicing first, which is called "leading slices" or "setting the beat." The other player is "trailing." The player who is leading has the advantage. This is because naturally when there are two people creating beats, the person who is trailing will tend to naturally want to sync with the first beat. In a sword clash scenario, this will cause the player who is trailing to stop slicing (trying to press the button too fast to sync with the first) or slow down in an effort to recover until the player is out of the clash period and dies. (Tapping the button randomly will cause the same effect.) Where as the lead beat naturaly will keep slicing, unaffected, because there is no beat before it to disrupt it. So one has learn to keep the beat of their slicing regardless of leading or trailing, which can switch alot in one clash battle. This is very hard to do and can require weeks or months of practice.

I can post the whole Halo 3 Sword Introduction in a seperate post if requested.
Good luck to all who choose to enter!
