Noble Six was fine, he's just an avatar. The rest of Noble team were presented as if we'd already followed them through a few games and knew their stories intimately.
We didn't. We don't.
And that's fine by me. It gives them a much more real feeling personality, and the story a more real/ in the moment feeling to me than having a bunch of absurd exposition to try to give them all bios or some ridiculous introduction scene for each character. If I feel like I really need to know their lives prior to these events more intimately I can read the instruction manual and/or online bios and bonus content that Bungie had all over the site and the Reach site. The game let us know they were a tightly knit team that worked together for a while and just lost one of it's members, so they probably aren't going to be too keen on anyone coming in to replace their fallen team mate. That really tells me everything important that I need and there were enough subtle tells to their personality traits by what they did or didn't say throughout the game if I really wanted to imagine more about what they might be like as people(but they're Spartans, so, yeah, personality generally takes a back seat to duty even more than an average soldier so it wasn't something I thought too much about).
