Subject: Did you like how H3 did not have hitscan weapons?

This is actually the stupidest thing ever posted on B.net:

Why does everyone hate Halo 2? Maybe its because its the worst game ever next to mario.

Do you prefer Halo 3's "bulletology" weapon system over the hitscan systems found in Halo 2 and Reach? A lot of players say that the Battle Rifle in Halo 3 took a lot more skill due to the bullet velocity and spread it had and how you had to lead your shots at longer distances. Other players say that it was a lot more frustrating and random. In your opinion, what are some of the pros and cons Halo 3 had in the online environment when comparing it to other hitscan weapons found in other console FPS's?

Not my first B.Net account obviously

It's more random. Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot and needs to stop riding Halo 3's dick. It's my favorite game of the series, just the bullet spread is indeed random and if it was hitscan it would be much better. Halo 2 had hit scan and it was better than 3. (Competitively, argue whatever else you want)

This was actually my bro's account for a while. Notice the last few games look like complete transformation in kills, deaths, ect.

Yes, it took more skill and was more realistic. I hope it will come back in a future game. The only problem would be internet. I never had internet problems, but people with bad connection may have experienced problems. That goes with any game including hitscan weapons.

Halo 3 Never Forget

Yes, it was probably one of the biggest factors in skill and one reason why I feel Halo 3 is superior competitively. Halo 2 BR was very reliant on host. As far as sniping it's hard to compare because Halo 2 would pretty much give you free kills as long as the enemy was on your screen lol. Halo 2 had little skill due to host advantage and hitscan coupled with huge hitboxes.

Halo 3 > Reach > Halo 2

Black Ops 2 I run two accounts warmup only at 1.97kdr...real is at 3.77. i'm in master division 4 league play. pm 4 clan inv...must have 2.5 kdr or better

Pros:
Increased skill gap
Logical way to shoot a gun
Small and necessary touch to realism
Balances sandbox

Cons:
Involves thinking at a higher level than most bad kids can handle. "Oh, I have to shoot in the direction he's running by three pixels away from his character. This hurt my head." - Halo 2 player trying Halo 3

There's much more to debate when it comes to skill then just contrasting hitscan and bullet spread. Bullet magnetism, autoaim, hitboxes, rate of fire, and sandbox also heavily effect the weapon system and question of skill.

I agree with everything you just said.

Hitscan being turned down in halo 3 made it feel better. Reach had a higher hitscan to counteract the bloom a little bit.. when bloom went away hitscan stayed constant making it possible to spam players and vehicles to death all the way across the map.

This is an area that Halo 3 definitely got right.

Does flaming people on forums count as an esport?

No. The bullet spread of the BR between 2 moving targets combined with the possibility of latency and connection issues makes it more random than anything. Hitscan is better. ZB Reach DMR>

Yes and no. For competitive LAN play, yes. Hell yes to that. For online play? Not really.

While playing LAN, lead is a very controlled thing. Everyone will have the same lead so therefore it increases the skill gap and is fair to everyone. Online however, the person with the higher ping has to lead further than anyone else. That leads to the one with the lowest ping having the easiest time while the one with the highest has the hardest time. That puts a massive unfair advantage to the one with the low ping. With that being the case, it actually decreases the skill gap instead of increasing it like most people believe for online play. Any advantage that's given to a player that doesn't involve skill but instead a certain situation decreases the amount of skill it takes to win.

It's honestly not too big of a deal for me. i'm used to leading according to what ping I have from years of Halo PC. It's just that it's fundamentally game breaking when it comes down to game balance. This is really the only thing that I feel is broken in Halo 3 and only thing Halo 2 got right over it so overall Halo 3 is better in terms of skill gap. Smaller hitboxes, less aim assist, etc...

Hitscan is an absolute must for online Halo. Period.

The consistency far outweighs the bigger skill gap. No contest.

You only played 431 games....
I have played thousands of games in Halo 3, and I get sick of people blaming the connection. You actually CAN win, even if you don't have host, it only takes SKILL.

The only problem I have, is playing against Australians and Kiwis..

I don't really like hitscan because it kind of makes the idea of a three burst shot gun pointless. Also, I think bullet spread increases skill and it was extremely consistent unless you lacked a decent connection.

Only played that many games on this account. ;) Back before I had broadband Internet, I played offline and online at friends' houses. Even played (won most) local tournaments starting in 2003. That account doesn't accurately measure how much time I spent with the game, trust me.

It does give a significant edge towards players who have a host connection. Definitely when they're "Australians and Kiwis". While it then takes more skill for you to win in that situation, it takes far less skill for them to kill you. That's why it's imbalanced.

Like I said before, it doesn't bother me personally. I'm used to Halo: Combat Evolved PC which took a hell of a lot more to lead your shots. This problem doesn't even phase me but I can look past my specific situation to see how it does effect the overall game and how hitscan works better for this in an online situation. I'd love to see if there's a way to make it hitscan in online play while leaving it projectile based while playing LAN. That would be optimal.

I actually liked that I had to lead my targets in Halo 3...not saying hitscan was bad but I prefer this way. =)

Half of what I say is true. The other half are also lies.

I don't like the Reach online much because I can be killed from unreasonable distances with even less reasonable weapons. H3 needed some skill to use, and a bit of luck. Reach all you have to do is go "Hey, you!" and someone dies.
