Subject: Does Using Callouts Make You A Tryhard?

"Tryhard" is a buzzword that has no actual meaning.

If you're not trying to win, you're intentionally losing. No other state of play exists.

I'm new to competitive Halo and Halo itself (Reach being my first video game ever actually). Message me if you want to play;

Reach: MLG, Arena, Doubles, BTB and customs.
Halo 3: Ranked MM and customs.

Also I have every Halo title and all of its DLC on the Xbox 360.
-Umpa

At a certain level they make you a tryhard. Basically if they are used effectively, they don't make you a tryhard.

I occasionally call things out to be nice to my team and help them out a bit. I am the exact opposite of a tryhard.

All i know is that there WAS a banshee on ascension in halo 2 and thats what they meant.

"To me, a nice triple kill with the sniper is infinitely more impressive than any Living Dead Killionaire"

Does flaming people on forums count as an esport?

I'm a commendation/achievement/statistics freak.

Pinnacle is a remake of the old Halo 2 map, Ascension. There was a banshee on this map, and it spawned at the platform far off from the center area, also known as Green spawn.

Without The Flood, I wouldn't know what an opinion is.

Oh look, another thread where people can't agree on what certain labels mean.

Seriously people, "Tryhard" and "Casual" are terribly vague words whose meanings vary widely for each person. Stop using those words.

*I've also noted for what "Tryhard" seems to typically define, it's a terrible word for it. It's my understanding that "Tryhard" used as an insult means that the person is making a big deal of an otherwise casual (non-competitive)game. In which case the problem isn't really that the person is trying hard, so much as they're overly competitive in a playlist/environment where it's understood by everyone else to be relatively care-free.

Bottom line? "Tryhard" and "Casual" are stupid terms.

So you're telling me you had a team-mate, in game chat, call out enemy position and you got pissed at him? wtf is wrong with you?

Everyone who played Halo 2 knows where Banshee spawn is and since the map is a remake... Instead of -blam!-ing at him, you could have put 2 and 2 together and learnt a new call out. You would have been ready for the next time someone calls out someone at banshee spawn because the name isn't changing.

1. I never said I was pissed, I just thought it was a stupid callout.
2. I never played halo 2 matchmaking, so excuse me for not knowing that Pinnacle is a remake of Ascension and that there was a banshee on that map.

I told them that i'm not a tryhard like them that uses stupid callouts

You sound mad to me.

Let me clarify. I wasn't pissed that they were using callouts, I was just annoyed when he called me an idiot for not knowing what he meant, which was why I called him a tryhard. That's when he and his friends proceeded to insult me throughout the remainder of the match.

Real account.

If you assign every letter of the alphabet a number, a is 1, b is 2, etc., and you take all of the values of the word "MATH", and add them, you get 42. So math is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything.

I tried using callouts once, I stopped taking the game I was in seriously afterwards.

The guy who used it assmued that everyone had played Halo 2 online, which obviously isnt the case, so Id say its a stupid callout if he didnt even check to see that everyone knew what it meant

Sounds like he was playing with buddies who knew it. Callouts often carry over from games when they might not be relevant anymore.

Anyway, OP it sounded like you instigated the response you got. Maybe you should have just kept your mouth shut instead of commenting like that for the first thing that comes out of your mouth.

Generalizations.
Helping idiots hate other idiots since people have existed.

1. No, you're not a tryhard. That just makes you a little more competitive about the game.

2. Like people said before me, it's the banshee spawn from Ascension. So you never played Halo 2? Well, now you know.

RIP Bungie Service Records. You shall be missed.

Pinnicle is a remake of a Halo 2 map. A Banshee used to spawn on the Halo 2 version.

Most people who call out don't even respond to others callouts. I don't see why they bother calling out.

Because most people don't realize that the game is played in 360 degrees. They only see what's on their screen...

I use callout when playing with a friend, but not over the XBL with a mic, just between me n him so HE knows what is going on and how to react to it... I don't care about people on the internet, I don't expect them to protect me nor to cover my back, but I expect my buddy to do so

A good team should cover each others backs.

Calling out just helps you and your teammates not die. Its helps you and your team know where the enemies are and their weapons if they have them. Tryhards are ppl who repeatedly rush a certain area over and over trying to get a certain weapon, but they fail every time. Or chase you for 10 secs trying to kill you because you're one shot.

Obviously his party HAD played halo 2 or else they would not be using that callout.

Halo 2 > Halo 3 > Halo 3 ODST > Halo Reach > Halo CE

But he didnt check that the OP knew what it meant. All it takes is for the guy to ask whether OP knew what the callout meant before the game started, and if not explain it

He wasn't talking to the OP, he was calling out to his friend. OP just happened to be there to make a fool of himself. I usually call out by power weapon locations but since nothing's located at shee spawn, it makes sense.

But surely it makes sense to make sure your team knows what to do, especially if you want to win. If his friend was the only one he was addressing then why didnt they just stay in party chat

How was he supposed to know OP didn't know where banshee spawn was? That's the easiest callout. Did the OP know where Sniper Spawn Walkway and Shotgun house are?

That's more -blam!- to explain. Before you know it, the match is already over.

He could ask
