To Bannog:

That's pretty arrogant to assume that the Legendary difficulty level is the only level at which the most elements of the story are revealed. Initially Halo and Halo 2 were designed to be played at the Normal difficulty level. The other difficulties were inserted to provide gamers with more of a challenge if they desired. Playing the game at Legendary is in and of itself merely for the pleasure of playing the game, not to illuminate more aspects of the story. There is even an FAQ over the Johnson question by Bungie that states that the Legendary ending was in fact a joke ending, a reward for playing and defeating that particular difficulty level. Deal with it.

No, you need to deal with the fact that you can't beat Halo 1 on Legendary and thus do not know what I am talking about.

I never said that I haven't beaten Halo:CE on Legendary. In fact, I've beaten it on Legendary many times. The same goes for Halo 2 as I've collected all the skulls. If you read some of my previous posts you'd now that. But instead you go and flame me. Way to go with the forum ethic. So, read my lips, I know exactly what you are talking about, it's the reason I decided to play Halo:CE on Legendary in the first place. I was curious about the easter egg cut scene.

If I did research on every sheeperson that called me names, like you did, then I'd have no time to do anything else. Sorry I didn't research your post history. And I didn't flame you, I said that you didn't beat the game on Legendary. But now that you've said you have and you have seen the "easter egg" then you should know what I'm talking about.

Never mistake me for a sheep. I've already countered what you are trying to state as fact, the Johnson hugging scene with the Elite is just a joke. I mean hell, the Elite even reaches down and grabs Johnson's ass. What more do you want? Bungie says it's a joke. It sure as hell looks like a joke. And I bet if you could smell it, it'd smell like a joke, too.

I can't help that you don't understand the sexuaI tension that takes place during battle. Look up a Roman Quad sometime.

Anyway, the facts still remain:

1. Sarge died while hugging an Elite.
2. Cortana said there were no survivors.
3. The New Sarge (a clone) in Halo 2 is the person who reaches out to the Elites (Arbiter) which is in recognition in the way he died (the original Sarge Johnson, not the Clone).

Again, unlike some other theories and stories claiming to be the truth, there are no contradictions in what I have stated.

I'd like to see you come up with a better storyline.

I already did, it was about clones. And the great thing about my storyline is that there were no contradictions.

I would also like to add that since Legendary is the HARDEST mode to beat the game on, it is the one that no doubt reveals the most about the story since it is more difficult to access and secret. In fact, I think all of these graphic novels and books and fan fiction are just a COVER UP to hide that the Sarge is dead. Hell, Halo 2 might all be cover up and Halo 3 is what REALLY happened....

There is one other possibility.

Imagine this. Sarge, knowing he is going to die, is affected by the many chemicals being released into his body from the emotions. These chemicals will effect his brain, and thinking. At that point in history, the human brain should have evolved enough to be capable of much more that we realize. So in a very brief epiphany (brought on by all the chemicals and hormanes being released into his bloodstream), Sarge realizes that he can mentally navigate slipspace (more accurately than even the Covenant are capable of) and find his way to an area that offers him safety. He then proceeds to find his way back to Earth.

Its the only other explanation for Sarge being able to get off of Halo in the seconds between him hugging the elite and the Halo being destroyed.

No you didn't. You saw a situation that looked like he was going to die, where everyone else died that was with him, and thus assumed he died even though you weren't actually shown the deathblow.

You know what happens when you assume, right?

Read "First Strike" it explains the reason how Sarge survived the Flood. His death while hugging the Elite is not actual fact in the game. That is what you are missing. It never really happened. It was an easter egg. And the graphic novels that are coming out in a few weeks will have one specially dedicated to explaining how this happened in full detail. You don't think we all questioned how Johnson survived? We all did? Every gamer. But then we quickly realized that the Legendary cutscene was an easter egg and therefore not actually a real even in the story line.

Thankyou, Achronos.

There you go. What else do you want?

Halo FAQ

Q Are there any secrets in Halo?

A There are lots of plot twists, but only one major built-in Easter Egg. To find it, simply complete the game on Legendary in Campaign mode. For more eggs, check out the Tips n Tricks page at Halo.bungie.org.

Q I hear that there's another secret if you complete the game on Legendary in less than three hours, true or false?

A False. It's an unfounded rumor. There is ONE Easter Egg hidden in the game and you do indeed find it by completing the game on Legendary, but you can take your own sweet time.

Definiton of Easter Egg
use of the term Easter egg was to describe a message hidden in the object code of a program as a joke, intended to be found by persons disassembling or browsing the code.

If the joke for completing Legendary is not Johnson hugging the elite, then what is the joke?

Sega Mega Drive, Golden Axe and Sonic all day!

I'd say a visit from the B.net overlord puts one big -blam!- in any "Johnson is dead" theories to be honest :)

As for the original topic (why i started reading) Every story is a copy and a reproduction of every other story. Harry Potter is a blatant rip off of half of LOTR and half Sword in the Stone. HP is still a great, immersive story though. Look at first person shoot em ups with original scripts not based on books, films, or previous works. Take Perfect Dark Zero, for example. Cracking game, but no-one actually cares about the crap storyline, and not many people sit on rare.com picking holes in it and guessing what comes next. People do this for Halo, its testament to how much quality the narrative contains.

Wel, than that brings up even larger questions (if this is actually canon (oh, to be a nerd, it's canon, not cannon. A cannon is a large mounted weapon that fires heavy projectiles)).

How in the last seconds did Sarge survive? I hope Halo3 starts as a flashback at that moment and you get to play Sarge escaping from planet sized blast.

No, hole is not -blam!-ed out. The only thing I can think of is you had one horrible typo or you had ass in front of it...

Edit: And as stated plenty of times, "The Hug" was an easter egg that was put in there for people that beat the game on Legendary. I know you guys know that (or at least should), but for some reason you keep on bringing it up.

Why wait that long when you could pick up the Halo Graphic novel and read Tsutomu Nihei's story in it, Breaking Quarantine, to see his answer.

Maybe he protected himself from the blast by gutting the Elite and sheltering himself in it's innards.

Dude, that's sick. They were just hugging. It's hard for me to believe that the Sarge would hug the Elite for one second and the next he's wearing the Elite's skin as if it's mink fur.

Fur is murder, BTW...in the future they would evolved and realized this.

Why not? He's a marine. He puts no value into the lives of others.
Krimson is right, it starts off as a hug next thing you know your wife has a 12 gague in your mouth.

This is absurd. There is no way that Sgt. Johnson could have possibly escaped the Halo. He was two far away from the Pillar of Autumn to get on it at the last second. This makes Caer's "cloning" theory almost true. All we need to do now is tie up the loose ends.

Easter egg. Not canon; not part of the plot. Seriously. Look it up; folks have graciously linked to (and quoted) the definition of the term.

The "hug" is a JOKE. Let it go.
