Title should be self explanatory enough. I'm creative.

Anyway, i love creating groups. I lucked out with my first one years ago, and it got decent activity and members. I ended up moderating and running several other groups because of the 'success,' made some great friends and had good times. Eventually it died, and i tried to start several since then, although none did nearly as well. A few had limited success, most struggled for activity before they slowly died, and others just flopped completely. And after all that i still love attempting to make a group.

Does anyone else find endless fun in just attempting to get a group going, and maintaining it? I love everything about it, from organizing and planning to meeting new friends. What do you do when you create a group? How do you go about recruiting? Ever made a group your proud of? Miss any old groups?

If I put pancake mix in my X-Box 360 Disc drive will it make pancakes?

I'm not a leader of any sort so I can't really relate too well to your story. But I'm glad that some of the people who run groups enjoy it. Since that's kinda the point. I haven't created any groups so again, I do not share your enthusiam.

Love playing custom games?

Well come join Customs Evolved

We are group dedicated to playing custom games, map testing, game nights, etc. Anyone is welcomed to join, and we hope to have as much fun as possible!

The hard part is running the group and having people return. Some opportunities like game day events are hard to schedule.

The height of my group's activity was something like 6 consecutive game nights. They were a blast, but eventually ended due to poor handling on my part. Maintaining activity is the hardest.

There comes a time in every mans life... and that time is not now.

I've never made my own group, but i've moderated some (including one really big group).

I enjoy it. For some reason i like the responsibility online, even though i don't like it in real life.

Halo 3 (31st), ODST (14th) and Reach (4th) Mythic Conqueror. (Mythic is Solo, Legendary, All skulls on + scoring on and no deaths/saves).

Ignorance is the true enemy of all things.

Communites need a unique appeal to last IMO. Something people can't really get as well, or quite like it, anywhere else. Something they feel a repeated, strong desired to come back for.

Otherwise, if it's just another 'lets play some Halo and chat about random stuff!' its going to die since those are dime a dozen and it's almost a guarantee that someone, somewhere, is organising that type of community better, with more people already.

I've started 3 groups. 2 died and one is still going strong.

Groups are great.

Pro tip: The less moderation the better.

My first group was back when Halo 3 first came out. H3 Photography, a group dedicated to making the best screenshots.
Never. Again.

Yes, I like being part of a community.
Getting my own group working is a challenge I will always accept.

Positive vibes.

I know exactly what you mean. There's no greater feeling than being a part of something great. Private groups help bring people together. I've met some amazing people through private groups, and have shared some awesome experiences.

It's not even about the big things, i.e. game nights, events, etc. It's about the little things - the posts that make you smile, the positive energy that flows; the feeling you get when members tell you that they are happy to be a part of the group.

The public forums are enjoyable in small doses, but private groups never cease to amaze me.

They call me graland.

I'm terrible at recruiting.

Then again, my group is about performance cars, so it has a very limited appeal on a community like this. The few members I have are pretty passionate, so I haven't had too much problem maintaining activity (kinda slow, but it's there).

I've never created my own group nor have I ever helped run one.

I enjoy them though and contribute as much as possible.

Cry Havoc And Let Slip The Dogs Of War.

Groups are probably the best thing about this site. I have only started 1 group...it died lol. I have been a mod in a few groups though.

Clanning and grouping was fun back in the day but now-a-days people are so busy with everything, and all of my friends play different games. We don't really play games together much any more, per se, just talk about them. :\

As for recruiting, I would simply suggest taking note of the people you have already tried to recruit, and be sure not to send them an invitation again.

I agree completely, even if that unique appeal is just access to a special blend of people. When I profile private groups as part of a Ride Along recap (which, in my opinion, is more important than describing the games we played), I am always asking "What service do you provide to the community?"

Groups can be teams, fanclubs, social lounges, creative ensembles, or secret societies. It's important to design an experience and communicate that mission to your members. If you are a leader, your charge is to serve them.

The tribal elements of gaming are my favorite parts of the experience. When gamers come together to create something, the game becomes more than software that one person enjoys alone.

I'm gonna finish it. Just like Jigga did to the pyramid.

I've joined a few groups but don't really take part in their activites and gatherings but I would like to join one and experience the good and rememberable things that those groups have to offer.

On a side nite, if anybody knows of a few really good & unique groups please PM me their names.

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.
~M.D~

I've helped quite a few groups out...I need to be better though.
