Subject: How Would a Scorpion fare Against an Abrams?

Personally, the scorpion wouldn't stand a chance. The M1 is nigh invulnerable to RPGs. The scorpion can be penetrated by sniper rifle rounds.

Wrong comparism bro.

Scorpion is way underpowered compared to modern tanks.

  • 04.17.2012 5:06 AM PDT

The Scorpion would be pretty screwed, the Grizzly would provide a better fight.

What sniper? You mean there is a sniper rifle in Halo? OH you must mean the anti-material rifle.

Canon wise scorpions are much more stronger.

Are you stupid.
That is no ordinary sniper rifle.
That is anti-material sniper.
Scorpion would own the -blam!- out of him.

I am alpha, i am omega.

I am the last of the primes.

I think it's far to say the scorpion is more powerful...

It does have a smaller cannon, but it's high velocity.

Exactly. I really don't believe UNSC to have designed a tank where the driver can be shot with a sniper rifle. I believe we can also ignore the very slow speed of the scorpion.

That said, I would say they're not much different if we consider Abrams against a canonical Scorpion. However, I would say that Scorpion is more durable, at least from front, considering that the engine in the back and the driver's compartment are the only parts that can't be filled with titanium. The scorpion also goes very well with a smaller crew, so even though they would most likely be pretty equal in combat, the Scorpion has some attributes that make it "cheaper".

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

The Abrams has a 105mm (M1) or a 120mm (M1A1 and after) cannon. The Scorpion has a 90mm cannon...

Guess who wins?

Size doesn't always matters, it's the velocity that matters too.

So at this moment we can make a correct statement on the firepower without knowing the velocity of the scoprions weapon.

  • 04.17.2012 10:46 AM PDT

depends if it was a halo ce tank or later tank.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,

Kinetic or Chemical rounds matter to. Are they APFSDS rounds or HEAT rounds?

Waypoint Moderators aren't really Moderators, just power hungry and its goal is defend their beloved Halo at all costs. (Meaning that they wank Halo too much.)

BS Angel is alleged foe so, be wary of Waypoint and its moderators! Do not attempt to move to Waypoint. Enter your own risk.

*WARNING* IT IS MY OPINION.

Not this again... It's been debated to death.

Scorpion loses to Abrams tank badly.

Not very well at all!

An assassin will always carry on, even after death.

The Scorpion is over 500 years older than the Abrams. Forget gameplay, canon wise the Abrams wouldn't have a hope.

Laughing At Nothing

The thing most forget about the Scorpions in the games is that they are firing high-explosive rounds. I would imagine with a canonical Scorpion that it would be possible to load AT rounds of some kind, but we don't see that in game. That being said: a single modern SABOT or AT round can disable most any other modern tanks.

The Scorpion might have a leg up if its had 550 years to design better armor to withstand AT rounds, and better AT rounds to fight other tanks with. It also auto loads its shells which means it can probably put more down range as well.

I could go on in their differences, but I would argue while the design of the Abrams makes more sense than the Scorpions, I imagine the Scorpion would beat it in armor, fire rate, and crew. 100 Scorpions vs 100 Abrams would probably see a Scorpion victory, but not without casualties.

Actually a well trained Abrams tank crew loads and fires rounds faster than a Russian auto loader, which is mounted on most modern Russian tanks including the t-90.

This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends;
Not with a bang but a whimper.

I'm going to go with the Abrams. Even according to cannon, it seems to go faster and shoot further.

Isn't the sniper rifle an anti-tank rifle?

Anyway, Abrams is bulky but armored, Scorpion is light and small (being a light tank and all).

If I recall, the Abrams uses a SABOT, meaning it fires from a break-off shell to give it more air-time (or something). The actual round that does damage is more like 70mm. The Scorpion's round is fully 90mm.

I could be wrong though.

Edit: And about accuracy. Wouldn't the Scorpion's HUD as seen in game basically be an accurate reprentation of the canon HUD? I remember reading the Scorpion requires a neural interface to drive. The tank links up with your head and you can see the tank's HUD on your retinas. I'd imagine aiming with your mind to be more accurate than math-ing it.

See, I would have mentioned that, but since not all crews would consistently be that good you statistically consider them outliers, and therefore moot point. If anything, they aren't the average crew. Since you have a large spectrum of reload speeds, the average will not be the best speed. A Scorpion, however, has a consistent fire rate that does not slow or stop.

As you say, it may vary from situation to situation.

Hanger one I just shredded with the SMGs until ammo was out and I just threw 'nades like a boss while BRing.

My experience playing Cairo Station on Legendary

Tank 500 years in the future vs. Current tank.

Is this even a question?

Too bad the game specifically says things like "Hold X to pick up SNIPER RIFLE"

Yeah, because it serves the purpose of sniper rifle in game. Doesn't mean it isn't an AT rifle.
