professional gaming is still in its infancy. Halo 3 could push it along further.

Please consider the needs of professional gaming when creating halo 3. Done correctly, halo could be the the new american past time.

Features should be added to the game to make it easier for tournaments, and broadcasting tourneyments.

It would be sweet if spectators could be in the game but not affect game play for the competitors.

Bungie is making Halo 3 for everyone, not just MLG.

Considering that Halo 2 was a flop and only taken up by the professional community, I'm sure Bungie plans to cater more to thier needs.

Im not sure they'll cater to the farm leagues like MLG, but they will definitely ask the BFG community what they would like to see implemented.

I hate to admit it, but the world of proffesional gaming needs television. It's sad, but it's true. In order for professional gaming to ever be taken seriously, it needs a fan base and it needs to make money. Technically, the two go hand in hand. You can make money with advertising if you have a large enough fan base, and television is the only real active way to get a large fan base and a forum for advertising in one punch. Trouble is, games are boring to watch. Don't deny it. It's fun to play a game, but it's not fun to watch other people play, not over the shoulder anyway. But don't lose hope yet. I think, when it comes to broadcasting games, editing is the key. People never thought poker would be an enjoyable game to watch on television, but then the editors got in and livened the pace of the game, adding in interviews to break the stride and colorful commentary. If I could see more triple kills on television than I do when I'm playing myself, maybe the game would be more fun to watch then. I guess there is hope.

Proffesional gaming is for gamers who think games are dumb, and their way (the way they win them) is the "Real" way to play it.

If those MLG guy's are so "pro" at Halo 2, why would they drastically change the rules?

No, I don't want Bungie to take "Proffesional Gamers" (usually self-proclaimed) into consideration.. They should make the game the way they've been making them.

something about hearing the term proffesional gaming just makes me want to laugh. perhaps i'm just in the dark about it or something, but do you get paid to play? if not your not professional.

@SweetTRIX

Yes, some gamers actually make a living doing what they love best: gaming!

http://www.team3d.net/ <---- Team3D is a good example of some "pro" gamers.

I agree with today's technology we need tv. Replays are big part of the warcraft and starcraft series. Warcraft has warcraft tv. if they could do something similiar with a fps, it would be ground breaking. In the future i think xbox live could be a better distribution channel than tv.

It is funny, because I've never been more obviously sarcastic yet taken so seriously.

At least you found humor in it.

Nope. Hate to disagree with you so blatently, but xbox live would NOT be a better distribution channel than tv. I'd offer arguments, but I'm too lazy. Just trust me. Also, the warcraft replays are different than something that would be on tv. Warcraft replays are "over the shoulder", where the game unfolds in its slow-paced true form. The majority of people won't watch that. But if it was edited, so that they could skip the boring parts and see only the cool exciting times (again, like in poker), then people would watch. It's all about the editing baby.

o i know there out there, but a good majority of people who refer to themeselves as professional are full of it, that's all.

They will cater to the MLG and BFG community, by offering custom games in which they can adjust gameplay options. Then they can delude the game into whatever form of "skill" they see fit. Like Halo 1. And Halo 2.

The editing would have to be such that the game footage more resembles a trailer. Maybe with in game camera work, wherever possible. I can see maybe a SportsCenter type show with just the highlights of "This Week In Professional Gaming", but more than that, I can't see there being that much footage available.

On the other side, gamers arent very marketable. 13yr old girls playing pro golf, yes, pimply faced, barely pubescent boys, no.

In my opinion this is an excellent point.

There's no doubt about it, Halo 3 has to operate on two levels... it's predecessor has committed the game to provide not only the conclusion to a remarkable and involving story in Campaign mode, but also to build and improve upon an excellent and unique multiplayer experience.

Now whilst the MLG rules have picked out what makes a more demanding team experience for gamers playing a competitive FPS, the limitations of the Halo 2 multiplayer mode are currently restricting the ultimate destination of FPS games.

What is this 'ultimate destination'?

In my opinion, exactly what qtuner2 is saying... the extension of video-gaming into the world of popular competitive sport.

That's not to say Bungie should start thinking too deep about such things. In fact, it's very safe to assume that they are not. Certain, actually.

However, the point remains the same. Bungie and Microsoft have opened a can of worms with the combination of Xbox Live and Halo 2. There's little doubt about the potential for such a partnership as this (by which I mean such an intuitive and involving community experience) and I think what Halo 3 will do is allow brilliant minds to think that much further ahead of the game... so to speak.

The question for me is: To what extent will this new version of Halo push the FPS towards its ultimate destiny?

I believe, whether intentionally or not, it will push us somewhat further along than we already are. For gamers, causal or 'pro', serious or not... that can only be a really good thing.

Hopes and prayers aside, Bungie WILL be hard at work trying to provide the whole gaming community with something they will simply ENJOY.. and enjoy alot.

Halo 3 needs a spectator camera. When you die you need to be able to control the camera. I hate the Halo 2 fixed spectator camera. I hate it! I hate it! I hate it! ARRRGGH!!!!

responding to twinkiemaker:

My main point is this. If the travel channels highest rated show can be about a game that, in real life, is so boring to watch that'd I'd rather pull hairs off an ill-tempered, crotch mutilating gorilla than sit through a full session of poker, than I'm sure someone could find a way to showcase halo in an entertaining, television friendly format.
