Watch out. If I post in your thread, chances are it'll die. I've been cursed, and if I kill your thread, I'm sorry.

After looking at some japanese stories, I noticed something. There are demons, called Oni.

Isn't it rather funny that the word Oni is one of the key players in the Halo story, the covenant call master chief "the demon".

On top of that, the covenant call it "the great journey", and yet there is the symbol from Marathon (a marathon is often a great journey).

I have to admit, pretty cool way of blending their history with story telling.

And Joe Staten taught in Japan as an English teacher.

I agree, although I can't think of anything in particular at the moment, I know they did this alot in the Halo novels.

Yeah, there is a ton of references in Bungie's work. Some more easily spotted than others...

I know that, but I figured it was the japanese stories they were referencing to for the idea since they call Master Chief "The demon", and if I remember right its because of ONI that the spartan project started.

I like to read manga and watch anime so for me i saw this for oni and was very impressed by their use of vocabulary for the naming of key information. Be it very self explanatory like marathon= great journey or the japanese term for demon or dark spirit=ONI.

I think the usage of "demon" towards the chief refers more to the religious aspect of the covenant.
