I haven't been here for almost a year, I don't think. Granted, not many probably remember me, and there's probably a reason for that. I was never one of the "big" posters here at B.net.
But, I would like to take some time to reflect on what has come to pass: Halo.
Gone are the days of Halo. One of the greatest gaming series of all time, so simple, so fun, and so revolutionary, has been so witlessly cast aside by Bungie.
First, they take Halo 2 offline. Then, they give up on Halo 3 for Halo Reach. Granted, these are all business moves: trying to stay up to date with the competition, but at what cost? Each Halo game was a masterpiece in their own right. Halo defined the FPS genre. Halo 2 set a standard for multiplayer gaming on Xbox Live. Halo 3 helped continue that on a next-gen console. It was amazing.
But what are we left with? Is that it? We had 3 games, Halo Reach and Halo ODST, and now Bungie has given up? Granted, we're getting a Halo 4, but how far will it have come? Will we even recognize it as a Halo game, lest it be so different like Halo Reach compared with Halo 3?
But that's not just it. It's also what has happened to the Bungie community.
Remember when the forums were packed by people, posting about easter eggs, maps and the like? What has happened now? We are left scouring in the dark, with little to no incentive to visit here anymore.
But, I am tired, and I feel as though I am rambling. I will sign off, but not before letting Bungie know that they truly had something remarkable that helped define them as a company. And they just swept it aside.
I doubt I'll be posting anymore. Stats are gone, there's no real community left in Halo Reach let alone Halo 3.
I can only hope that 343 Industries brings some spark back into the Halo franchise. Because - from what I can deduce - it seems like it's been killed and given a shoddy funeral.
