Yes, it's on Bungie's Facebook page. Keep it there.

All this shows is that User A likes User B's post. It does not benefit the discussion.

There you go, OP. No chance of it being implemented as a site standard, but the addon is right there.

Don't be too discouraged.

Many people who frequent this forum have an obvious bias against anything related to social media, in particular Facebook. So having a reasonable discussion on such a feature is near impossible.

This topic also comes up occasionally so people can be agitated by that as well and lash out.

Then again, no one seems to use that, defeating the purpose of it.

Forums are for discussions, so the only reason I can see this being implemented is for users to notice that User A's post has received several likes, or positive votes, suggesting that points made in that post are valid and contribute to the discussion.

However, the point I just made is quickly countered as posts containing non-contributive content - that involve humour that the rest of the community will be amused by - will receive praise via the feature.

So, just because a large amount of people here do not agree that it is needed nor necessary we are unreasonable?

As it has already been shown, it does nothing to adding to discussion value in any way.
All it could possibly be used for is ego boosting (or deflating) forum members.

It's another T-ball trophy.
'Oh look, they like me. They really like me!!!!!'

Fine, add it, but there better be a DISLIKE button right beside it.

Roll the dice, try again.

I believe there is already a script for that.

No, it's because large amounts of people are incapable of holding an on topic discussion about it. Usually it ends up going into comparison against facebook. Which isn't what it is.

Unfortunately there are too many people that do this, so the entire thread becomes a rage thread against facebook instead of just implementing a "like" button.

  • 04.18.2012 8:41 AM PDT

Nah I'll pass, I think it's fine without it.

[*Please note that anything in my posts is likely to be filled with sarcasm, and should be taken with a pinch of salt. I tend to help people, usually*]

There's nothing wrong with implementation of social feed buttons at the top of the first page of a thread. I support it.

Just to show an example of what this looks like on a forum. It's not that intrusive at all. Not even ugly. I think that if they were on every single post in the forum, then yes, that may look a tad excessive, but above the OP? Not a problem with me.

  • 04.18.2012 10:02 AM PDT

It's not a bad idea, but doesn't necessarily contribute anything. We have one on Waypoint. Doesn't really add any value to anyone or anything, but some people really enjoy it.

Personally, I could care less.

It could also be used to find the most popular content, just like it is on any other site. That's way more appropriate to some forums than others on this site. The Gallery and Classified forums, for instance, would be enhanced by having something like that and being able to sort by it.

For most of the forums here, though, I'd just as soon see a tech support forum type of setup where a user can mark a post as the correct response to his or her question.
